Despite Peter Parker's intuition increasing astoundingly after being bitten by a radio active one, spiders are actually useless at spotting danger, ofter climbing up the arm, or into the hair, or ear, of an arachnophobe who promptly squashes them.

Traumatic for the spidyphobe, catashrophic for the spidy.

So I propose Spidy Scent, a spider repellent along the lines of a shark repellent. Spray it on, and no eight legged friends will come visiting. It could be based on the pheremones of some big ugly male tarantula... smelling dangerous to other spiders.

The only problem I can see is that it *might* occasional encourage a visit from a horny female tarantula after a bit of spiderotica, but this seems a small price to pay to avoid daily contact.

<slightly off subject> I read recently that slugs can be repelled by garlic. Simply spray garlic oil in your garden. They are both repelled by it and killed by it if they come into contact</off subject>

There is no cruelty when it comes to slugs, the nasty hosta eating menaces. But all in all, drowning in beer can't be the worst way to go even if you are a slug - though slicing em up on the beer can is a bit grim because of all the partial slug carcasses you end up with. I'm planning to train the kittens to eat slugs.

Shark repellant? Does that actually exist? If not I suppose you could always make sure there is blood in the water 3 miles away...

What do spiders like? Flies.

So by this reasoning you need some decoy flies 3 spider-miles away to attract the spiders.
Maybe you could use a light to attract moths and therefore detract the spiders. But spiders might not like the light, so you might have to blink it on and off.
