Introduction of fissures to nuts would reduce their hardness reducing the required bite force and wear on mouth parts including teeth and etc.
Fissures cold be created by (maybe) dramatic hot/cold temprature change or sonic booms. Would look the same but would have little cracks under microscopes like marble or diamonds.-- bob, Dec 16 2018 frequency limits of ultrasound https://physics.sta...limit-to-ultrasound [Voice, Dec 16 2018] (+) Been through that. Won't work.Still a hard nut.
: ]-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Dec 16 2018 Xray each nut to detect the hard spots. Use constructive interference of two ultrasonic speakers to break those up.-- Voice, Dec 16 2018 Would there be sufficient difference in density for X-rays to discriminate ?
Ultrasound might work; what's needed is an energy input that is preferentially absorbed by regions of higher density/rigidity.-- 8th of 7, Dec 16 2018 Phase-contrast X-ray should work.-- notexactly, Dec 18 2018 Good idea. Placing the nut on a rotating stage would allow a sort of CT image to be produced, enhancing targeting.-- 8th of 7, Dec 18 2018 Better to mount the CT scanning apparatus on a large mobile gantry, so as to allow full analasys without disturbing the position or orientation of the nut?-- pocmloc, Dec 19 2018 random, halfbakery
