The linked surfing assist dock is so close to perfect, but you still have to run along with it carrying your board, dropping it at the precise right moment and jumping on it without falling off.
Putting a slot in the middle of it with a series of roller wheels on either side would allow you to put the surfboard's fin in the slot, stand on the board holding the handle, wait for the right wave and simply kick the board forward exactly like you would a skateboard, jump on and just be dropped in place at the end of the dock thingy.
Incidentally I'm going to treat surfing like getting a haircut this year.
