Salt and pepper shakers shaped like a (magnified) grain of salt and a dried whole peppercorn.

Don't you think they have it rough enough already? [link]

Interesting debate--do you really want to see what your food looks like highly magnified, while eating it? Especially for seasonings, which remain mostly invisible while imparting flavor? Still, bun for spatial synecdoche, and for the almost fractal effect (case of salt shakers that looks like a salt shaker, truck that looks like a case...).

I thought they would just look like a pile of salt and a pile of ground peppers. Once you'd try to pick them up you'd notice that they're fake and really shakers. (Does anyone still use pepper shakers? It's always mills around here, and there the illusion would be harder to achieve.)

So, one is cubic, and one is a (rough) sphere?

I like that. [+]

[+], assuming the salt shaker's peppercorn-shaped, and the pepper shaker's saltiform.

[Etymon] you just wanted to use the word synecdoche. I liked the movie though.. Kinda.

If the salt was a white cube, with softened edges, and the pepper was a brown/black sphere with a few softened wrinkles, both made of ceramic, it'd be lovely. [+]
