Remote Clinking Hub   (+8, -1)  [vote for, against]
Cheers

What is it about global middle-management gatherings?

Swissies, Swedies, Frogs, Gerries, Limeys, Yanks dining cheerfully.

The mixed up etiquette of the pre-prandial cheers, bottoms up, santé, prost, skål.

People reaching across to clink glasses from one end of the table to another.

Under the influence, it's difficult to remember if you've already clinked and more importantly it's just not scalable.

I propose the Remote Clinking Hub.

A central unit - probably an iPhone app - connects using Bluetooth to miniature clinkers that fit over the rim of each glass. The clinkers include battery powered hammerettes that clink the glasses at the right moment.

Right moments are configurable of course, but normally, the right moment is when the glass is raised, accelerometers detect the act, clink the holder's glass and transmit the clink to the central hub. The other clinkers receive the instruction and clink remotely.

Hours of scalable etiquette unmixing satisfaction.

You seem to have inadvertently used "clinking" and "etiquette" in the same idea....

Raises the question: should it be server-client, or peer-to- peer, with conflict resoloution?

Oh I don't know; clinking and etiquette co-exist quite well round where I am.

I was going to call it the Remote Chinking Hub; it would have been wrong though.
