Prayer-Talkie   (+7, -3)  [vote for, against]
a single walkie-talkie you pray into. (God has the other.)

non-flamers may skip the square brackets.

[the existence of any particular person's god may be debated elsewhere. the fact is, that that (i love that-that's) particular person talks to their god.]

[the effects of prayer may also be debated elsewhere. but i think many a doctor would agree that it is helpful. the reason for this may also be debated elsewhere.]

but i maintain that the positive effects of prayer may be enhanced or even increased, without negative effect, by the Prayer-Talkie. pray-ers can be more thoughtful, more specific, and more pronounced.

instructions:
1. look up
2. press transmit with thumb
3. pray

obviously, this could be produced (very!) cheaply, since the electronics hidden within the plastic molding can be abbreviated, recycled chunks ot TI-99 boards, or nonexistent!

A PRAYER AMPLIFIER? Aw, come on ??? http://cgi.ebay.com...tem&item=1000222914
<Don't blame me, the seller wrote the title.> [StarChaser, Feb 14 2001, last modified Oct 04 2004]

Most people who tend to believe in gods also tend to believe that their god doesn't need any technological assistance to hear their prayers.

If you market this product to users who believe they will receive special attention from their god, you've got something pretty similar to plenary indulgences, which are not really considered to be legitimate these days.

As for supposed positive results of a prayer enhancer, you should keep in mind that there's a thin line between placebo and scam.

francois, that is well put, but how you underestimate my market! they are people like you and i. of course they dont believe that their god is literally sitting somewhere fiddling with his frequency dial like a bearcat scanner.

the Prayer-Talkie is a helpful tool. i would compare it to an illustrated bible. (for example- the christian segment of my market also doesnt necessarily believe that the illustrations were done by an artist who happened to be there thousands of years ago documenting noah building his ark.)

Try reading 'Lord of Light' by Roger Zelazny which features telephone calls to the gods.

ok. ok. i will not sell them. but i might buy one. i never said they were necessary. (that's not for me to say!)

all i claim is: "the positive effects of prayer may be enhanced or even increased, without negative effect, by the Prayer-Talkie. pray-ers can be more thoughtful, more specific, and more pronounced."

different frequencies for different religions. color coded. aethiests could get one of each and put them in the glove compartment in case of emergency.

hand crank! just like the light, radio, and laptop (idea/auto-recharging_20laptop). what a bizarre image! (im tempted to cast my own vote!) seeing someone cranking with one hand, pushing the button with the other, looking up and speaking! (i wonder if it looks something like that seeing someone use a prayerwheel...)

actually now that i think about it, this is the perfect device to run on FreePower! (idea/small_20FreePower!_20electrical_20devices)

Try telling George Washington why you can hear music coming out of a black paper cone hooked up to a piece of wire and some funny-looking objects and a battery. Just describing how the electromagnetic spectrum can carry information will be a feat. You never know what grand-slam inventions are around the corner*. Perhaps there might be a whole different spectrum which carries what people are experiencing, thinking and saying, and what God is saying in return. This would cause a revolution in religion in proving that there is a God, and that he likes all religions that believe in an afterlife. His Voice may have gigahertz of frequencies in order to talk to other people.

*Try to explain how the following things work to George Washington: Radio Television/Monitor Pixels Cathode Ray Tube RGB color mixing on TV Loudspeaker Blacklight Laser Bar Codes Square Waves Digital PCM sampling Solid State Memory MP3 compression Capacitors, Resistors, Diodes, Transistors.... ...And don't even think of describing about computers unless you have plenty of time!

The point I'm trying to make is that we do not know what discoveries may lead to controversial new inventions like the Prayer-Talkie.

Baked, evidently. See link to Ebay.

In order to explain how Radio Television/Monitor Pixels Cathode Ray Tube RGB color mixing on TV Loudspeaker Blacklight Laser Bar Codes Square Waves Digital PCM sampling Solid State Memory MP3 compression Capacitors work, I'd have to have a better understanding of what they are. Sounds awfully complex.

The conclusion "anything is possible" doesn't follow from the statement "George Washington didn't predict the invention of the radio."

Trying to explain ANYTHING to George Washington at the moment would require the Prayer-Talkie and ghod's willingness to forward calls...
