Take Rex for a swim.

This expensive piece of kit allows you to take your goldfish out to a fresh water lake and let the little scamp have a wonder around the water-bed, allowing him to meet new friends and expand his horizons in complete safety, with the knowledge that with a touch of a button he'll be on his way back to you, whether he wants to or not.

The Colandarine is a spherical, transparent, plastic vessel with holes covering its surface. It has an array of water jets to propell it through the water in all directions triggered by the pilot's movement inside. A web of sensors built into the sphere detect the goldfish's heading in the water and control the water jets to do the iddy fishy's bidding. At the end of the day a remote signal made by you brings the vessel to the surface where it bobs waiting for you to pick it up. A docking station (read: bucket) is also supplied so Rex isn't put through too much stress from lake to home.

While Rex gets into deep water adventures, you are free to either don your scuba gear and join his exploration, sharing in his joyful sense of discovery, or simply sit back and relax on a small boat, sipping beers, waiting for a bite*, content in the knowledge that now there will be at least one fish that didn't get away.

Suggestions for a better name would be appreciated.

* (Ensure you take hooks that can't fit through the holes of the Colandarine.)

MMMMmmmm... bears...

shouldn't have to wait long for a bite, anyway.

:) [+] Nice picture.

Bears?! I mean come on, seriously [GutPunch], bears?! Perhaps try not going to lakes with hungry bears around? You wouldn't walk your dog whilst covered in bears would you? I mean they're savage beasts! Great hulking mounds of brute strength and bundles of razor sharp claws. Stay away from the bears man!

Do bears even hunt in lakes and reservoires? I thought they just stood in rivers and caught randy salmon. Would they even look twice at a goldfish?

Phew... sorry.

[Frank], I dunno if I'm being slow today but why "Eddy"?

Wait for it...

Bubs, I think [GutPunch] is referring to your suggestion, in the bit about kicking back on your boat where you suggest sipping some (presumably) ice cool bears.

In other words, sp. bears.

Ha ha ha. My complete and humble apologies [gutpunch].

I've changed the spelling, but please leave the annos. They are most chucklesome.

Pondorama it is, thanks [xenzag].

(+) What was the old name?

Goldfish Colandarine. I am *rubbish* at making up catchy names.
-- theleopard, May 16 2007

Thanks for the diagram [Treon], but I'm not 100% sure I get you. The idea is to immerse the fish in a new habitat in which it can still feed on small particles of food that float through the holes, and at the same time keep the goldfish safe from predators. In your tray version is the goldfish still protected from predators?

[edit] Uh oh, I've been linked to a classic...

A larger version, yes...

You just have to know Rex will become stigmatized by this experience, what with all the other fish calling him "Bubble Boy" behind his back. Imagine the therapist bills!

<therapist - "Und zo, Rex, ven did you first realize you hate your muzza?">

Brilliant. Very much like the 'hamster ball' thingies they actually do ..
