I'm sure somebody's though of this but just in case.
The remote camera vehicle works in conjunction with several sonar beacons that are placed around the ship so it may exactly orient itself using triangulation.
It takes hundreds of pictures from very close so there is very clear resolution, but each picture is taken from an exact angle so that the mosaic of pictures when assembled will appear to be one picture taken from far away.
Right now I'm only seeing 3D models of the totality of shipwrecks that are in dark or unclear water. This would allow a very clear, real photograph of the entire wreckage.
This of course could be applied to making vast underwater panorama landscape shots of the bottom of the ocean as well. Imaging seeing a two mile long very bright, very clear shot of the bottom of the Marianas trench.-- doctorremulac3, Apr 05 2017 Photosynth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhotosynthThe technology to do this even without location and angle data exists. Unfortunately, Microsoft's implementation of it is discontinued. Check alternativeTo. [notexactly, Apr 07 2017] It would be fun to add it to Google maps as a kind of Easter Egg.
Just strolling along across the Atlantic and there is this famous shipwreck. !
At least as interesting as the ship breaking yards in India and Bangladesh.-- popbottle, Apr 05 2017 "I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night. Alive as you or me. Says I, But Joe, you're ten years dead. I never died, says he. I never died, says he."
I did not dream of Hill. But saw Bill Gates in a dream last night, no doubt trigger by this Titanic idea. Bill was fine. Looked a bit flat like an animated photograph in suit and tie.
Seems Microsoft has buried in oceans and lakes a doomsday device ten feet below the surface. And "some of the Mark 1s are failing." "the seals?" i said. he nodded. Seems they wanted me to go pull out the failed units and landfill them.
Then a sales gimmick computer mouse hidden in a pack of cards, became the focus. "Bet you have a warehouse of these." I said. Bill smiled almost and faded away.
And I woke up.
Nice to know if I ever do meet the man I won't be able to resist insulting his products and blowing the chance.-- popbottle, Apr 06 2017 Well, if you want to start a conversation with him I wouldn't start it out with "I had a dream about you last night."
My brush with Microsoft royalty was when that second in command guy came to a company I used to work at. He was funding a startup on another floor of the building. Just looked it up, Paul Allen. Anyway, his bodyguard showed up first and was either in love with me or considered me a threat because he kept staring at me. I should have walked up to Paul Allen and really quickly pulled out a candy bar, hoped for a non fatal shot from his body guard and a multi million dollar lawsuit payday.-- doctorremulac3, Apr 06 2017 This could also be used to make a panorama picture of the floor of a forest without any trees using drones and radio triangulation. It would require a bit of jugglling of the angles but the final product would be a panoramic picture of, for instance, the floor of the Amazon forest with only black dots where trees are.
I think I'll post that as another idea.-- doctorremulac3, Apr 06 2017 random, halfbakery
