Pickup Bed Seats   (0)  [vote for, against]
A removable bed-liner for your pickup with seats mounted

For those times you need to carry a few extra people in your three-seat pickup, I propose a set of seats that bolt into the bed to allow you to carry more people safer than just piling them into the bare truck bed. these additional seats could have seatbelts and grab handles for safety

I know these would be better than nothing but, even so, I would still cringe at the sight of people in an open pickup truck bed.

Given that pickups don't have standardized mounting points for such a thing, how would these be installed? Especially, what hardpoints would the seatbelts be installed to? Would it all need to be aftermarket engineered?

They don't need to be a standard size. they could be mounted by a system like a screw-jack that presses against the front of the bed and brace against the tailgate and another set of screw-jacks for the sides.

seatbelt hardpoints would be a problem, as making the entore structure rigid enough to mout the belts to it would make it damn heavy....

baked 30 years ago by the Subaru Brat. My understanding is that many US states made it illegal to carry passengers in the bed, making the Brat seats less popular...

Interesting thing about the Brat is those seats technically qualified it as a passenger vehicle instead of a truck, which meant Subaru paid a lower import tax on it in the US.

I remember a time when it wasn't dangerous to ride in the bed of a pickup. Such innocence.

It's not just seatbelts, it's the whole interior box that would violate US safety regs; everything from head impact energy values to vehicle exit systems.
