Why is there only a Baker's Dozen and not a Baker's Score ? A Baker's Century, even a Baker's Millenium ? Counting is so boring now everything has been decimalised, can we not re-introduce the 'Baker's' quantifier to make things a little more confusing again ?-- nichpo, Mar 07 2003 Why it's a baker's dozen http://www.straight...g/mbakersdozen.htmlWeights and Measures. [DrCurry, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004] On seeing the dissapointed look on a ladyfriend's face, the use of the "I ment 10 *Baker's* Inches" excuse probably won't save you... or would that be the wrong way around... er... as it were...
Oh, I've gone and made myself blush...-- Seaneeboy, Mar 07 2003 If you want to make things confusing, why not just a one-word replacement form on non-rhyming slang:
I'm just going down to the Bakers'. Just give me a Bakers'. Oh, Bakers! Look at the Bakers' on her! I don't give a Baker's.-- DrCurry, Mar 07 2003 Oh, baker off.-- waugsqueke, Mar 07 2003 <irrelevent aside>//A variant is bakester// -- from [DC]'s link
I think that sounds much better than 'baker'.</>-- Jinbish, Mar 07 2003 Of course, it would have to be a part of the slug / fortnight / hogshead English system.-- RayfordSteele, Mar 07 2003 I like the idea of a baker's kilogram being 2.5 lb and the baker's litre being 2 pints.<aside>At the engineering woikshop where I once woiked, screws, nuts and such were commonly dispensed by the 'Imperial handful'.</aside>-- angel, Mar 07 2003 I'll have a baker's pint of ale, please! (+)-- Cedar Park, Mar 08 2003 13:00-- Shz, Mar 08 2003 I think I'd like a baker's hard drive.
Yeah, to put it on everything would be confusing. Because everyone's not a baker.
As for a baker's dozen, hope you have a nice, generous baker. Otherwise you get less than everyone else. [:^) It's the baker's choice!
How 'bout a Baker's hundred? "...Killing a hundred people. What? You say a baker's hundred? Oh, Lord, save us..."
Oh yeah, and you get cool stuff like:
A Baker's Burger. With more than The Works.
A Baker's Hemi. What a Hummer has. (I know it doesn't really.)
A Baker's Slap.
A Baker's Bakery. Also prints newspapers.
A Baker's Ammo Clip. More bang for your buck.
A Baker's Annotation. What you have right here.-- TahuNuva, Jan 08 2008 [Shz] ooh, I like "Bake 'o clock" (best if the "o" is pronounced "uh"). Kinda sounds like lunchtime too.-- marklar, Jan 09 2008 random, halfbakery
