One Clock, Four Hands   (+7, -1)  [vote for, against]
summer/winter clock

Every six months our clocks go forward an hour, then six months later they revert back an hour. It's a pain changing them. One Clock, Fiour Hands solves this problem permanently. Here's how it works:

There are two sets of hour hands set to move continuously exactly one hour apart. Each of the hour hands is naturally coloured differently so that you know which one to look at for summer or winter time. As the minutes and seconds are unnaffected, one of each of these is sufficient.

These clocks have an extra hand.... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o

I think you might as well have one hour hand with two pointers. There's no need to have any mechanism dedicated to two separate hour hands, if they're always going to be an hour apart.

well I like it! I would like to see the hands of winter look like snowflakes and the hands of summer look like sun rays! then I wouldn’t have to think about the colours. +

I've wanted something similar for international time differences, although I'm sure digital versions of that exist.

Clocks with two minute hands exist, or used to, back when local time was different from civil time.

Sufficiently interesting and useful[+]

Only if Patrick Stewart makes a cameo in the commercial. "How many hands do you see?"

Could the clock simply have two hanging conditions to orient 12 to the 11 am position?

.......after a suitable period of silence "this clock has an extra hand" (see link for quote reference)

I thought they were voting this week to get rid of DST. If that happened I'm afraid your brand new clock would already be obsolete. I'm so sorry, xen, and I still love the summer/winter take on it.
-- blissmiss, Mar 28 2022

Man I hope they do get rid of it. Apparently there's a debate as to whether we should stay on DST or standard time, and frankly IDGAF we just need to pick one and stick with it! Let employers adjust their work schedules/business hours by an hour if they have a problem with the selection.

I love it. The change over to BST (British Summer Time) every year is a great turning point in the calendar.
