This idea uses a contraption that fits onto a toilet roll holder. It has a rotating wheel fixed to a levered arm which can go up or down according to the thickness of the roll left. Wheel will eventually turn a dial dependant on the number of revolution it has completed. The dial will read Successful missions completed = 'n : where 'n' = the number of times a person has successfully completed a mission!-- NumboJumbo, Sep 17 2007 TP odometer TP_20odometer [xaviergisz, Sep 17 2007] Something missing, I think. Surely the count 'n' would be the same if the roll was used in one go, or over a longer time?
I think an inertial type sensor could be used: when the roll is pulled, the sensor is moved outwards, registering one pull. In this case, each pull will give an increment to a counter.
But if you want to measure how many customers, then there needs to be a timer as well.-- Ling, Sep 17 2007 This needs an AND gate. If flush AND roll, then increment. This of course doesn't account for women, damn them with their trivial use of paper.-- marklar, Sep 17 2007 [xaviergisz]: odourmeter?-- Ling, Sep 17 2007 //if flush AND roll, then increment//

if you had our plumbing you wouldn't call it trivial.-- k_sra, Sep 19 2007 grrrrrrrr-- theleopard, Sep 20 2007 //grrrrrrrr // Is that the growl of a leopard?-- xandram, Sep 20 2007 GGRRRRRRRR!!!
-better?-- theleopard, Sep 20 2007 Anything that counts poop mechanically is awesome.-- Crackpot, Sep 21 2007 The author of this thread did in fact tell us that this was a NOVELTY and not a meter that could accurately measure the crap down to the ounce. I would even dare suggest that an LED display meter should go on the outside of the bathroom above the door so that others can wait outside and cheer you on as you are working towards a new record.-- Jscotty, Sep 21 2007 The problem with this idea is not that it fails as a measuring device, it's that it fails, at least for some, as a *novelty* - for me, it's not interesting or funny, it just leaves me uncomfortable sharing virtual space with someone who is obsessed with defecation. That doesn't mean that there aren't 20% of the population who absolutely love this and would spend money on it.-- jutta, Sep 22 2007 random, halfbakery
