Non-vertical cursor movement in italicised text   (+12, -4)  [vote for, against]

If you use the cursor keys to move the cursor up and down within a big block of italicised text it looks odd (go on, try it). The italic cursor moves directly up and down in the italic text - it would feel more natural if it moved at an angle, so, for example, pressing the up arrow would move the text cursor up one line and slightly over to the right.

[riverhorse], best idea in the bakery today. It makes a lot of sense to me.

I just tried it and I have to agree with you. It's creative to notice that in the first place, let alone to imagine trying to solve it.

I'm always thrown by that. I think I'd prefer a vertical cursor, as it is always a little difficult to point the mouse to the right spot.

...*and* it allowed [vince^3] to show off his classical education.

Personally I'd be pissed if any of my software started doing that. [-]

is terrible idea.

It's a great idea and gets my vote... I could never understand why the cursor does not "naturally" do this.

I totally agree. This is exactly what my computer needs. This is what the world needs! Fantastic. Simple. Non-life-changing. Almost unnoticeable. Perfect. [+]
