Fresh out of the halfbakery oven

Wafflemakers generally have a little light that lights up when the waffle is done. Sometimes you don't notice and the waffle stays there and you only notice when you smell something. I think that when the waffle is done (the light goes on) the wwafflemaker should turn itself off and the lid will pop up. It's that easy.

How apropos since I had the waffle iron out this morning and was trying to dispense medications and answer phones while the waffles were cooking. I would want an override in the event that I wanted to keep the iron hot.

It should also pop the lid so the waffle doesn't go back to all soggy. If toasters can pop a slice a waffle maker should be able to do it too.

None that I've seen. I've only seen ones with a little light.

Ovens sometimes have auto-turn-off though.

After the waffle is done and the waffler turns itself off, its still going to take quite awhile for all of the built up heat to dissipate. Unless you remove the waffle immediately, I'd fear that it could still burn or at least darken past one's preference. Therefore, I agree with kbecker's suggestion that it have a pop up lid, so the heat can be released. Besides, it would definitely help you notice that the waffle was ready.
