So far, in history, we've always gotten lucky. With Lewis and Clark, their names sound good together. But what if it was Lewis and Jimmy. It doesn't sound as good. My idea is a machine that takes a list of equally qualified people for a job, then gives you the names that fit together best. And every time you submit a name, it gives you a custard filled donut.(or rhubarb if you get the attachment-- fett625, Mar 07 2007 Lewis & Clark http://en.wikipedia...nd_Clark_ExpeditionNot as good as Mason & Dixon, Watson & Crick, Eric & Ernie... Give it an algorithm or rule for deciding.
For instance, I noticed that most of the famous pair names that I could think of had very few letters they shared. Lewis & Clark, Brooks & Dunn, Simon & Garfunkel, Smith & Wesson. Make something like detecting that a part of your machine, and it looks like something besides a wish.
Okay, Lewis & Jimmy don't have many letters in common, either, but it doesn't scan, sure. Maybe see if the names can be sung to _Rule_Brittania_, but give about half of a way your idea might work.
It would be nice to have a machine like this, if only for picking presidential running mates. BTW, there's some sort of Soul-Mate-name predictor available on the web, but I'm not taking a look at it.-- baconbrain, Mar 09 2007 the thing is, as I see it, Lewis and Jimmy just don't *mean* anything to anyone but if they were an internationally famous pop duo or a pair of siamese twin catwalk models or an infamous pair of grave robbers then the names would just roll off the tongue and be deemed perfectly acceptable.
