You keep your ticket stub with you. You sit down. You punch your ticket stub numer into the remote control in the arm of your seat, insuring that you cannot operate more than one remote. If you do not punch in your number, you will not be allowed to vote.
When voting, one merely pushes a button on one's remote control. If more than 50% (or whatever percentage is determined to be the right amount) of the theater's patrons presses the same button within, say, five seconds, the requested event will come to pass.
Such as switching to the next scene, to avoid all that tiresome dialogue. But there could be two "Switch Scene" buttons. One that switches to the next segment, and one that switches to the next segment--only these two segments are different lengths. In this way, one could skip so-and-so's tedious explanation of such-and-such, but catch the other person's reply, or we could avoid a longer boring scene, like the orgy sequence in "Matrix Reloaded." Likewise, if the volume is too loud, we could all turn it down. And if a patron in the theater is being an asshole, we could summon the bouncer. Which is a separate idea I'll be posting.-- Eugene, Jul 13 2003 This must be baked already. The audience in the cinema where I saw the Matrix Reloaded must have voted out the orgy scene 'cos I never saw it!-- gnomethang, Jul 14 2003 I don't trust the taste of the majority. Why not just have multiple releases or wait for the DVD?-- phoenix, Jul 14 2003 I don't know about scene skips, but I agree there should be volume and focus controls that can be adjusted from your seat.-- phundug, Jul 14 2003 The orgy sequence, plus the big playground fighting sequence, plus a bunch of the other fighting sequences which were tedious and formulaic. Sounds like a good plan.
Some of these movies hollywood movies lately seem like they would work better as a 20 minute short film.-- junkerboy, Jul 14 2003 (even more off topic) This weekend I was moving some stuff on a dolly labelled "Ravenswood Scenic Studios," followed by a 718 phone number.
Huh, I thought.-- snarfyguy, Jul 14 2003 I vote against this because I cannot favor altering the film as it was meant to be viewed, no matter how bad it is. (And Matrix Reloaded was way bad, I agree.)
The integrity of the work is the most important thing. It is presented as is, structured the way the director intended it to be seen, and you can sit and watch it or you can leave.-- waugsqueke, Jul 14 2003 Actually, yeah, I'm glad someone mentioned that. This idea isn't going to make a bad movie better, and it will probably make a good movie worse.
Orgy sequence? I remember a laughable rave sequence. Maybe I was asleep for the orgy part.-- snarfyguy, Jul 14 2003 [snarfguy] most people confused the rave for an orgy.-- crunkindonuts, Dec 21 2003 Oh. THAT scene. Thanks for clearing that up.-- normzone, Jun 17 2014 I will never understand why Americans call it a "movie theater". Apart from the fact that the words are "film" and "theatre", what is wrong with more compact "cinema"?-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 17 2014 random, halfbakery
