You've just cut your finger and you want to take a shower. But wait, is it okay to get shampoo and Neutrogena in a fresh wound? I don't know, and sometimes it not good to get it wet, a scab needs to form. Enter the mini-hyperbaric-chamber-finger-cot, a small clear plastic vessel with a rubber seal on one end. Before entering the shower you would insert your aflicted finger into the chamber. The positive air pressure is provided by a diaphram pump remotely located outside the shower and plugged into the wall. There would be a generous lenght of non-kinky tubing included with the setup. Of course mounted inline with the air pump, is a desiccant filter to produce clean fresh air.-- evilpenguin, Oct 06 2007 If the wound's not too bad, you could try using one of these. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styptic[+] for the notion by the way. [zen_tom, Oct 07 2007] ??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_cot [2 fries shy of a happy meal, Oct 07 2007] digit bag Digit_20bagI guess you could do just the opposite of this [barnzenen, Oct 09 2007] Activ-flex http://www.band-aid...uctList.do?typeId=3 [rascalraidex, Oct 11 2007] If you increase the pressure on part of your body, you will squeeze all of the fluids out of it. This will probably slow healing, not speed it up.-- GutPunchLullabies, Oct 07 2007 Main concern is cutting off the blood supply at the rubber seal. Not sure the need for the constant addition of pressure; perhaps a valve would permit showering whilst unplugged?-- vincevincevince, Oct 07 2007 Won't your flatmates give you strange looks if you take your penis pump into the shower?-- gtoal, Oct 07 2007 Maybe I should make this clear. The device is designed for showering use. And the positive pressure is to keep the finger DRY. With air constantly leaking out there would be no way for water / soap / chemicals to get to the finger.
And [gtoal], it's designed for a finger, pretty small. If your flatmates think thats your male enhancer you have bigger problems.-- evilpenguin, Oct 07 2007 (+) Pressurized oxygen is supposed to be good for several conditions requiring healing. And as a diver, I can't help but vote for it.-- normzone, Oct 07 2007 // Pressurized oxygen is supposed to be good for several conditions requiring healing//But not, ironically, for diving.-- AbsintheWithoutLeave, Oct 07 2007 Psst, [21Quest], the idea of a condom is to keep the "moisture" in.-- AbsintheWithoutLeave, Oct 08 2007 [21_Quest] try takling a shower with a regular finger cot on, the finger will get soaked!-- evilpenguin, Oct 08 2007 Might be good for those pesky cases of priaprism.-- ldischler, Oct 08 2007 Wow, had to google 'priaprism'
Sounds horrible, and yes, possibly remidied with postive air pressure surrounding the afflicted penis-- evilpenguin, Oct 08 2007 For hyperbaric oxygen to work, you have to breathe it. Infected fingers or other parts are left in the air, although pressurized air. I think that this will not work as well because 1: gas exchange through skin/wound is not great 2: circulating fluid will dissolve the excess O2 and sweep it off to mix with the normally oxygenated body.
That said, it seems to me that something along these lines would work for a poorly perfused, gangrenous, anaerobic wound. Hopefully if you have one of these you aren't spending time fretting about neutrogena.-- bungston, Oct 08 2007 //a poorly perfused, gangrenous, anaerobic wound// I would like to know what this means. . . . .-- evilpenguin, Oct 09 2007 It means downright nasty and not in a good way.-- NotTheSharpestSpoon, Oct 09 2007 /Tripping + shower = injury/
Is injury more likely (nay, a certainty) when naked?-- Texticle, Oct 10 2007 "...designed for a finger, pretty small. If your flatmates think thats your male enhancer you have bigger problems."
You mean smaller.
As a handyman, I'm covered with nicks and cuts all the time and like this idea, but the idea of one more doohickey dangling about cluttering the shower just gives me the shudders. Isn't it easier to just cover it tightly with a bandage, then change it right after the shower?
Besides, the airhose is a tether that limits your motion in the shower. I don't need another thing to trip over or get the shower hose tangled up in.
No bone, but no bun either.-- elhigh, Oct 10 2007 [elhigh] Handyman that gets cuts all the time? Me too. That's exactly my thinking behind this idea. It would be incredibly cumbersome to have an airline in the shower with you. . . maybe a CO2 cartridge could supply compressed CO2 through a pressure regulator. That way there would be no air line to trip on, just a tiny CO2 canister (the size used for airsoft guns) connected to you mini hyperbaric chamber finger cot.-- evilpenguin, Oct 10 2007 Just apply superglue over the cut. Stings a bit but much better than any elf-ahdesive dressing when faced with water.-- oneoffdave, Oct 10 2007 Is that sterile?-- evilpenguin, Oct 11 2007 like "liquid bandage" I have used this. I assume the evaprotive accelorants in superglue would make it sterile (alchol based)-- evilpenguin, Oct 11 2007 //a generous lenght of non-kinky tubing// - I prefer the kinky stuff. Much better for lashing her to the bed.-- wagster, Oct 11 2007 I don't think there are any evaporative accelerants in superglue; the presence of water vapor is necessary for the glue to cure.
A fast-evaporating acid is part of the liquid superglue's ingredient list; it keeps the glue from curing in the bottle - that's what stings.-- elhigh, Oct 11 2007 The Band-Aid Activ-Flex work really well. I have used them before for a half inch gash I got on my inner ring finger knuckle. It stayed on for days, through showers, typing, whatever.Plus it draws out moisture, making this healing goo inside.-- rascalraidex, Oct 11 2007 I know... its a big bubble of it.. fun to poke when your bored.-- rascalraidex, Oct 11 2007 random, halfbakery
