This lighter operates by having a mixture of finely powdered depleted Uranium (which is pyrophoric) and powdered metallic Strontium (which is in Group II, so nicely reactive, and also gives a lovely red colour) stored in an Argon atmosphere.

On pressing the button, a measured portion of fuel is deposited onto a tiny ceramic hearth, where it instantly ignites on contact with atmospheric oxygen.

Useful for lighting cigarettes, cigars,and pipes, but can also be used for starting campfires, steam locomotives, and small to medium-sized wars.
