Our milk man delivers our milk in pint bottles which are printed with advertisements, I thought that if they had measurements printed on the sides it would make it easier for cooking. If you need half a pint, instead of using a measure jug, just pour out to the measure.

I seem to recall the glass bottles of my youth having some sort of scale down the side. Frankly, I think every such thing should include some sort of measuring device, just for ease-of-use.
