Martial Art Academy   (+4, -2)  [vote for, against]
High School setting...but the focus is Martial Arts

Alright...I've thought about this for a while...There are some people out there that truely are in love with the martial arts. I don't mean the kind of people that watch action movies and pretend to be ninja. I'm talking about the true students that practice atleast 4 days a week for 3 hrs a day and still want more. So how do we feed their hunger for the martial arts?

I say, a Martial Arts Academy. Boarding school for the true practitioners of the Art. Classes that cover high school education along with courses that allow you to study one style of martial arts or multiple. Physically and philosophically. I know that korea, for instance, has Taekwondo to replace something like our American P.E. but I'm talking a school dedicated to teaching all types of martial arts. Where students can meet others with the same interests and be surrounded by the mentality to be the best martial artists.

A campus that has open fields and training grounds for meditation and work outs. It's a martial artist's dream. I can see it now...students in uniform...because, well they have to...haha.

I've always thought that people should learn how to fight with art materials at Martial Art classes....

Learn how to fight with Acrylic !

Advanced techniques in water soluble pastels !

...'though these would be easel-y mastered.

... o-kay then, [xenzag]...

This would be fun, especially for those like me who find it hard to get to the dojo halls due to being busy/tired/bogged down with work. Bun!

//I don't mean the kind of people that watch action movies and pretend to be ninja.//

Don't underestimate these kinds of people, watching kung-fu movies and pretending to be a ninja is a serious practice. Those who become technically adept only do so through years of gruelling practice and rigorous instruction.

Jackie Chan went to a martial arts academy, with legends Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung. Yuen Wu Ping, the acclaimed martial arts director (Matrix, Fist of Legend, Crouching Tiger etc.) also went to the same school. It was a boarding school teaching kung-fu, with physical training, Chinese opera and general maths and language classes. Not as lavish as the one you describe but still.

All this kung-fu chat reminds me of a certain stool... <whistles nonchalantly, shuffles feet>

I saw a documentary last week about boarding schools in China where the kids do 8 hours schooling and 4 hours kung fu a day. Aparently there are 40 000 schoolkids at various kung fu schools in the Shaolin region.

was that on discovery atlas? I saw that too. they called it wushu city. pretty scary actually. they leave out most of the spritual/ internal traning and produce machines.

I have seen episode of Naruto and love the fact that they incorporate actual martial art techniques. I saw one with drunken style that was protrayed very realistic. And for you "Acrylic"...i didn't mean that kind of high school classes integrated with martial arts...haha, but it might be interesting...i guess.

Could there be video cameras in all the hall ways of your new school? I don't want to miss out on any of the fights. Oh, and could these camera's be linked to the web so we can watch the fights live?
-- Chefboyrbored, Dec 16 2006

well...i wouldn't expect there to be any fights within the halls. But if this school is suppose to be filled with teenagers, they will most likely always break the rules. Sure why not. Cameras in the halls along with a Reality Show broadcasted all over the nation.

Ok last thing...maybe not, catch my sarcasm.

Just make sure that it is not the stupid sport martial arts like the IKF or whatever it is. I've seen it. Silly. Try Goju.
