Manta Ray Diving Suit   (+15)  [vote for, against]
Dive suit design that "smears" the body shape into the water

Like force fins for the whole body. The mantaray suit could be made of closed-cell, crosslinked foam and coated with teflon or shark skin material. The overall shape of a suit could be personalized to a diver by taking a 3D scan of the diver and smoothing out the edges evenly all the way around the body to a knife-like edge in the shape of a ray. Diver could control the edge of the suit with artificial tendons which could be made by 3D printing the suit and including higher density sections in the shape of cords into the foam.

Oooh I want one! I wanna be a teflon manta ray. Better yet, I'm going to name my band "Teflon Manta Ray". Um - I assume there is an oxygen tank involved here, right?

//I assume there is an oxygen tank involved here, right?// Not if you want to go deeper than about 4m - pure oxygen at a pressure of greater than 1.4 bar is potentially dangerous.

Supercool, after having got the knack, you'd be able to navigate with the slightest of motions.
