An mp3 player gives a rank to each song on its hard drive. Selecting a song, stopping on a song after hitting skip, and tapping your foot adds points. Skipping a song before its over assigns negative points, based on how early in the song it happens. Songs get a certain temporary negative score based on how recently they have been played.
