Last year one of my students found a pogo stick and used it to periodically hop around all over the studio. Annoying as this was, it would have been ten times worse had it been of the Loaded Pogo Stick variety.
This variation on the conventional pogo stick incorporates a holder for a roll of percussion caps, similar to those inserted into toy six-gun shooters.
With the now primed, Loaded Pogo-stick each bounce is accompanied by a loud bang, a shower of sparks, and a small puff of smoke, creating the illusion that the jumper is being propelled along, instead of just jumping up and down.-- xenzag, Nov 06 2008 + cute idea. (water for summer?) pogo fountain!-- xandram, Nov 06 2008 somebody make a mobile phone(handy) charger using a pogo.-- kamathln, Nov 06 2008 I'm thinking of re-naming it, but too busy to devote any time to matter tonight.-- xenzag, Nov 06 2008 //creating the illusion that the jumper is being propelled along// Illusion ? for shame.-- FlyingToaster, Nov 06 2008 I like the shotgun cartridge scheme. One could use blanks, for safety. The kick of a shotgun is just about perfect for this. The jumper could wear a large bandolier.-- bungston, Nov 07 2008 Two crossed bandoliers, which are belt fed into the pogo stick. The unfortunate constriction of the bandoliers about the wearer would help enforce configuration discipline.-- normzone, Nov 07 2008 This could be done by using a Mossberg pump-action 12-guage shotgun as the "stick". With the 8 round magazine, filled with black powder blanks, and a strong spring, quite useful altitudes are attainable.
Given the 2.7 cm^2 area of the barrel, and the breech pressure of around 500kg/cm^2 (for BP) the instantaneous upforce should be able to propel an average 70Kg adult some distance into the air. The impact with the ground on descent would re-cock the weapon and trigger firing.
The principle is exactly analogous to a semi-automatic captive bolt humane killer. And would most likely have a similar effect on the user. It is an extremely dangerous inadvisable use of an illegally modified firearm. [+].-- 8th of 7, Nov 07 2008 random, halfbakery
