Little Baby Choo-Choo   (+9)  [vote for, against]
Sound effects for little ones

This idea came to me while watching my not-quite-one-year-old girl toddle around.

The idea is for a wearable device that senses motion and acceleration and responds by making steam locomotive noises. The faster the baby moves the more energetic the locomotive sound. When the baby's going full out, the device occasionally lets out a little 'toot' like a whistle.

What I didn't have in mind was how this would be implemented, but a diaper might be cute - if the risk of electrocution can be eliminated. This actually opens up a whole new potential idea: diapers that make a noise when wet/dirty.

{Admins: I realize this is closely related to the various 'Soundtrack for your life' ideas and, if it needs to be [m-f-d]'d, I'll abide.}

Sound effects as performance art http://www.halfbake...20performance_20art
...also similar to this one, which predates all those other ones... [hippo, Sep 04 2002, last modified Oct 05 2004]

Unlike all those personal soundtrack ideas, this could one could actually work. Cute. (Even if trains haven't gone choo-choo since *I* was a baby.)

Btw, as you ought to be aware, baby generally makes a noise when wet/dirty, so you don't especially need the diaper chiming in.

And later in life, people wonder why she runs so fast with her head phones on,

I think it's different enough.

[phoenix] would you adopt me, dear? I know I can be difficult but I would try awfuk hard to be good.

Can you add boiiing and sproiiing noises for when they fall over? Croissant anyway, this would be exceptionally cute to watch in action.
-- madradish, Sep 04 2002

Maybe this happened to me i've been letting off steam for years now Fssssh..pop
-- skinflaps, Sep 04 2002

po: I would imagine that would depend on whether you're potty trained.

Indeed. Just the thought of changing those diapers... {{shudder}}

[madradish] I like. How about a slide whistle?

Here come the inevitbale TtTE references... :-s
This would be a lovely present for my not-quite-born nephew-to-be. Can you make it by December?

How about attaching this thingamujig to a baby-walker, hooked up to the wheels to judge speed and moderate the "choo-choo" sound accordingly?

If diapers produce a sound like popping bubble wrap?

Will kids grow to enjoy symphonies and wilderness sounds? After all, IMO, bubble pop rock is one of the best sounds around.

I'd say this was so close to my "Sound effects..." idea as to warrant an m-f-d, but it would seem churlish for me to do it, so I'll let someone else make the decision.
