This idea was inspired by hearing that my brother had his brand-new car damaged whilst parked. Not only were the rear end panels badly damaged, but one of his parking sensors now points down, rendering it useless. My idea is to use Nxt flat speaker technology to turn the licence plate (or plates) into an ultrasonic sonar sensor. Simple and cheap, and no more of those ugly button sensors along the bumpers. With careful positioning of transducers and signal processing, maybe the whole of the bumper could be a sensor.-- AbsintheWithoutLeave, Jun 16 2005 Nxt explained http://www.popularm...551.html?page=2&c=y [AbsintheWithoutLeave, Jun 16 2005] Like it. [+]-- david_scothern, Jun 20 2005 I like the idea, but I think the boot should contain a high-power harpoon, too.
If the car detects that's it's reversing, the Nxt-speaker can be used as described and inter-mingled with it producing frequency sweeps rather than just beeping sounds (to warn off dogs, bats as well as children)...
If the car was stationary, it could emit the same sounds only louder (in case the other car doesn't have Nxt's fitted)...
Finally, if there's contact, and your car was stationary before-hand, it could activate the the harpoon to ensure that the other car doesn't get away with it.-- Dub, Sep 04 2005 It'd be hard to walk with a harpoon in your boot.-- bristolz, Sep 04 2005 //It'd be hard to walk with a harpoon in your boot// Trans.
