I think it still needs a bit a work, but I'm welcome to suggestions for alterations.
Dear Land of Half-Bakery, thy hope is a croissant. God make thee tastier yet! On half bakers brows, beloved, renowned, Once more thy vote is cast. Thine help file's laws, by annotating gained, Have ruled thee well and long, By annotating gained, by baking maintained, Thine Forum shall be strong.

Thy baking is refreshing as the annos, As croissant warm and buttered, A baker that dares, and heeds not critisim, Has a stern and silent pride, Not that mfd that in dreams despair, With what our bakers have baked, The stoves of a bakers mind hath spent, Still nerves a newbie baker. -- talen, Jan 22 2003 will give you my rendition one day http://www.fordham....d of Hope and Gloryreal time player - Land of Hope & Glory [po, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004] The Song Page http://www.halfbake...a/The_20Song_20PageA proposal to capture 'inventionless songs' and not overpopulate the bakery [RayfordSteele, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004] Most bath songs are great, such as the one which the hobbits sing when in the bath at Tom Bombadal's,(excuse spelling) and really no matter what you did you could not make land of hope and glory a bad song.-- talen, Jan 22 2003 I'm not recognizing. UK song? Reference for the poor?-- RayfordSteele, Jan 22 2003 a touch of Land of Hope and Glory - seems to me.-- po, Jan 22 2003 I'm curiously eyeing those fish. Who's the party-pooper? Speak up now...-- RayfordSteele, Jan 22 2003 I've got the distinct felling someone doesn't like me.-- talen, Jan 23 2003 Might be because you spelled: halfbakery > Half Bakery.*hands talen a warm and buttered croissant*-- thumbwax, Jan 23 2003 Thanks for the pointer, it's been corrected. And thanks for the croissant. (I missed lunch)-- talen, Jan 23 2003 The fish do seem disproportionately excessive . . . .-- bristolz, Jan 23 2003 Why all the fish? This is not fair.-- talen, Jan 27 2003 But what is wrong with the idea that warrants the fish?-- talen, Jan 27 2003 // Not another debate about people's right to vote as they see fit, please. //
No, it's not. It's a request to understand the reasons why. This is a distinction which you just do not seem to understand, Sleepygrass. I think talen fully supports peoples' right to vote as they please (as I do, and did, when you hassled me about this very same thing). He's just hoping for some explanation, that's all.
talen, my guess is that not enough people recognized the original piece? Perhaps that's it. And it sounds a bit Gilbert & Sullivan to me, which can only be a bad thing in my book.-- waugsqueke, Jan 27 2003 Not enough Pomp and too much Circumstance.-- phoenix, Jan 27 2003 waugs - well it doesn't scan, it doesn't rhyme in lots of places where it should, and it's just not that great. Don't know about SleepyGrass, but that's why I gave it a fish. Nice try - no cigar, I'm afraid.-- goff, Jan 28 2003 Well you have a try then. It ain't easy.-- talen, Jan 28 2003 Having tried to write one of these things on a couple of occasions and, having been met with abject failure, I have to agree, it ain't easy.-- bristolz, Jan 28 2003 It's a quite tricky thing to do indeed. Because I know firsthand the challenge involved, I'm usually pretty lenient on anyone who undertakes it.
I take way too long to write the ones I do, involving mirriam webster's online thesaurus, rhymezone, an open window of the original song, an open textpad window containing all of the thesaurus and rhymezone hits, and a final where I edit the actual song.
I think what you're up against here is that the subject is a little worn down; people have been there, seen that. Also needs some synonyms here and there to avoid the overused wording deal, like 'baker' in the third paragraph.-- RayfordSteele, Jan 28 2003 If you want to flaunt that creative side, why not try writing an original song or poem, not based on something pre-existing, which as has been noted has been done a LOT now.-- Zircon, Jan 28 2003 Who says we don't?-- RayfordSteele, Jan 28 2003 Tell me what you think about this proposal: I've modified my 'displaced song reference collection' to 'the song page,' with the idea that inventionless songs could easily and neatly captured there, and easily filtered as well by those so wishing.
