Looks like a knife, kills like a gun

This is a gun that looks like a knife. When your opponent is laughing at you for bringing a knife to a gunfight, you shoot him. NOTE: not designed for cooking or fishing.

Baked since the early days of guns. Most interesting combo I've seen is a knife/gun/knuckle duster (brass knuckles). In case you run out of ammo, I guess.

Or, if you're taunted for bringing a guknife, beat the crap out of him with DrCurry's brass-knuckle-enhanced duster.

I thought this would be a gun that shoots knives. Sort of like those dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you.

//cross between a regular stabbing knife, and an arrow//

Knife with feathers? Could you not just deploy ducklings with knife blades "duck" taped on?
-- silverstormer, Jul 22 2003

I have to give it a bun, sounds like an appropriate weapon for a DeathNinja.

"So! (Lips moving) You think this is funny? (Stoic Smile) ::BLAM:: No, that was funny. (Lips moving)"

I'm almost certain they did that in a video game... one of the Final Fantasy ones. and i dont think youd bring you KnifeGun to a gun fight as much as youd bring your GunKnife to a Knife fight. you fight like a knife, close range combat and all, then at the opertune moment <BAM!> where your oponents knife used to be is now a bloody hole in his hand.

disarmed and wounded you move in for the kill, a stabing and slicing kill. onlookers will see that you've won the knife fight, but be dumbfounded as to what just happened.

"did he shoot him?"

"no, he had his knife in his hand the whole time, how could he have?"

Ballistic knives are baked.
-- Shz, Jul 23 2003

Ballistic knives just shoot the blade. What he's talking about is called a gunsword and though they were featured in a Final Fantasy game, Square didn't make them up. They were rather common in the early days of firearms actually. Basicly, it's a small gun with the barrel buried inside of of snugged up against the dull side of a single edged sword. Since early guns fired one shot and took a long time to reload, they were a liability in actual combat. With a gunsword, you could defend yourself with something better than a club after firing that one shot. There's an antique firearms museam in Massachusetts that has a whole building full of them. Baked or not, I will give this idea a plus, since it's esoteric enough that I would believe DeathNinja if he says that he came up with it on his own.

//Ballistic knives just shoot the blade// Merely pointing out that we’re straying off topic.

On topic - Colonial-era bayonets are baked too.

This has been done, in an encyclopedia i once saw an interesting carving knife and fork into which a tiny flintlock firing mechanism had been built. Strictly ornamental as the bullet exits toward the knife-wielder.
