Kill camera   (+4, -1)  [vote for, against]
A picture saves a thousand lives

It's getting tiresome to see killers of near-endangered animals treated like heros.

The essential idea is a dual-scope rifle with "red-dot technology" (sorry to get overly technical with the hunters among you).

Software calculates the likelihood of a "kill" based strictly on a photograph of the red dot and where it occurred on the identified animal.

Pieces of this are "common as muck", per comments in the link.

Quite right. Most of them are no sort of a challenge anyway, and no matter what you do with it, panda is basically tough and tasteless - just about tolerable in a casserole*.

On the other hand, both the Red-breasted goose and the Vietnamese pheasant are delicious. If they want to survive, they shouldn't taste so good.

*The skins, however, make wonderful bedside rugs, and are a great talking point.

You say that, but a bowl of deep-fried panda ears is absolutely fantastic with guacamole.

I assume this makes a loud bang when it takes the picture so the target will run away. Otherwise you could take many photos while the animal is just standing around.

Now you tell us. Sadly, on that occasion, as on so many before, your Aunt Phosgenia got to the buffet first, leaving in her wake only two limp lettuce leaves and a large, completely untouched bowl of what we fervently hope was potato salad.

At least now the reason for her ownership of that gigantic handbag is explained.

Given that we're all going to die, what's the point...

Stalkers could use this to terrorize their assumed friends.

//Aunt Phosgenia got to the buffet first// She has, in fact, been known to stow away in the caterers' trucks on their way to family events. It was this habit, coupled with her famously poor eyesight, that once led to her being exported to Bolivia.

This could work. I've been with Druze friends who have this knack for hunting that I never understood. I'm sure if they could have a camera that would make the noise and give the thrill, and then make them famous for their video of spotting the last Gazelle seen in the wild, they would adopt the sport with both hands.

They could keep the real hunting skills for shooting myna birds.
