Alex Trebek, host of my favorite game show passed today. (because, 2020 right?) This isn't a tribute, those just make me kind of sad but I'll support anybody else who wants to do that.
This is an idea to take a new technology that up till now hasn't be used for anything other than making people say creepy things they'd never say in real life and uses it for something positive, keeping a great game show running with the host we've all come to love.
Shot live in the studio, the impersonator would wear a mask and makeup to get the illusion as close as possible, but in post editing the deep fake of Alex would be applied and his actual voice would replace the actors Siri style. We have decades of him speaking, I'm sure we can find every word in the dictionary and with a little work create a program to put them together to convincingly replace the dialog of the actor playing him at the studio shoot.
We watch dead actors all the time and there's been talk about making movies with Humphry Bogart, John Wayne etc, but I suggest we keep this great gameshow going with its great host. This would give the illusion of Alex interacting with real people in real time.
Watching Jeopardy, you actually WOULD be watching and listening to Alex Trebek.
And this can be a tribute as well. I think he'd get a kick out of it.-- doctorremulac3, Nov 08 2020 Just one memory of many similar ones. https://twitter.com...1325543646343663620(upbeat music) [jutta, Nov 08 2020] .-- blissmiss, Nov 08 2020 [-] better to encase that worthy in lucite, and have him stood up next to the podium.
On that note, I wonder if Trump - after they send in the Navy Seals to forcibly extract him from office, in a couple of months - will get a public statue : it would be a revenue-positive investment for the news media, as long as whatever city it's in has to pay for maintenance.-- FlyingToaster, Nov 08 2020 kdf, that's legit but FT, wait... with all due respect, what does Trump have to do with Alex Trebek's passing?
Wonder if we're going to need a "Days Since Trump's Been Mentioned" post. God I hope not.-- doctorremulac3, Nov 08 2020 Yeah, we've needed that for a while, sigh.
RIP Alex Trebek. I don't think the genuine smarts he brought to his role can be deep faked just yet.-- jutta, Nov 08 2020 . fellow Canadian-- Sgt Teacup, Nov 08 2020 Probably right. I just wanted to say something about the guy with an idea as the premise.
I have fond memories of mom and dad watching this show for decades at the designated broadcast time every day. I set them up so they could easily watch recordings of it and my dad knew how to use it (and indeed he did for other shows) but they preferred to make it a daily routine at a specific time to watch this together. And know what? I get it.
It was fun to watch dad get so many crazy answers right. I'd say like "How the hell did you know who wrote Thus Spoke Zarathustra?" and he'd just shrug.-- doctorremulac3, Nov 08 2020 Richard Strauss. And we didn't have to google that ... it's part of the incidental music to "2001: A Space Odyssey".
We particularly enjoy the opening scenes where [xenzag]'s immediate family are seen on a recent picnic, capering round the Black Monolith.-- 8th of 7, Nov 08 2020 Heheh, you'd think I'd know, but my kneejerk guess was Copland (indirect reference : Emerson, Lake & Palmer, "covered" both composers)
//FT, wait... with all due respect, what does Trump have to do with Alex Trebek's passing? //
Well, if you put it like that... it tied in with "encase AT in lucite" (ie: cheap statue). Also, I'm avoiding the Trump threads : too formulaic.
According to somewhere on the 'net, AT shaved the 'stache off in 2001. Since most of my Jeapordy... Jepordy... Jepoardy... what the hell... memories feature that (watching with my mom/dad), I hereby proclaim that any future hosts should be likewise adorned.-- FlyingToaster, Nov 08 2020 I would have answered "Nietzsche".-- spidermother, Nov 08 2020 "Gesundheit !"-- 8th of 7, Nov 08 2020 "Ausgezeichnet"-- spidermother, Nov 08 2020 Quit swearing you all.-- blissmiss, Nov 08 2020 Corrections and edifications: "Also sprach Zarathustra" was composed by Strauss; "Thus spoke Zarathustra" was written by Nietzsche.-- xenzag, Nov 09 2020 random, halfbakery
