This idea's all right in the title. For those who haven't seen it, Junkyard Wars is a show where two teams compete to build something using junkyard items. The twist here is to build halfbakery items out of junk. Surprisingly, the resulting items may be more worthless after the competition.-- Worldgineer, Mar 14 2003 would this detonator thingy left over from an idea by [8th] be useful at all?-- po, Mar 14 2003 Viewers in the UK know the show as "Scrapheap Challenge".-- krelnik, Mar 14 2003 I didn't mind the show, but a lot of the items found in the junkyard/scrapheap were a little convenient.-- RoboBust, Mar 14 2003 It is well known (and admitted on-air in episodes where it is obvious, like the steam car & rocket episodes) that Scrapheap/Junkyard does stock the yard with useful known-good items, like cars with working engines and so on.-- krelnik, Mar 14 2003 Oh I see, I didn't catch very many episodes.-- RoboBust, Mar 14 2003 Let me make sure I understand. The teams are attempting to make items that are HB ideas and they're using junk to do it?-- mrthingy, Mar 14 2003 Yes.-- Worldgineer, Mar 14 2003 gawd my nursery class would have baked a few ideas by now. keep up, keep up, pay attention.-- po, Mar 14 2003 [po]: I don't think [8th] ever has any detonators left over.-- angel, Mar 14 2003 it was the night of the full moon when he was walking home, after a good night down the pub, through the cemetery. He heard this strange meowing and squealing and he fell over, in the dark, surrounded by ten to twelve screeching tomcats as they mistook him for the on-heat queen that lived just stage left in the neighbouring scrapyard... or so the story goes.-- po, Mar 14 2003 <Yes. -- Worldgineer>
Oh. + then. Could HBers be the judges? Just one more question: what's po on about?-- mrthingy, Mar 14 2003 She's on or about the Ides of March-- bristolz, Mar 14 2003 [thingy] - I think that would be appropriate. That, plus an objective rule of whatever team comes closes to getting the invention working.
[birs] (sp) Ideas? If so, did I miss the cemetary cat orgy idea?-- Worldgineer, Mar 14 2003 heh thats funny [bris]-- po, Mar 14 2003 So: pick any random, (bakeable) idea, boil down its components, and assemble it using subsystems of other halfbaked ideas, or something similar?-- RayfordSteele, Mar 14 2003 No, I think he's talking about actually putting together HB inventions using junk for parts.-- mrthingy, Mar 14 2003 Fishbone for unoriginality. What if I posted the idea "Spend Money on Actually Televising 'Junkyard Wars - Halbakery Edition?'" Isn't this just a meta-idea made of regular ideas?-- snarfyguy, Mar 14 2003 I for one would love to see many of these ideas built. Having them built from junkyard scrap, under time constraints, competitively would yield grand entertainment. The flaws in logic discovered in the last minute, the action of seeing someone adding wheels and an engine to an iron lung. Priceless, I tell you. Priceless!-- Worldgineer, Mar 14 2003 //meta-idea made of other ideas// I prefer the term "synthesis". Sounds a lot better on a resume anyway.-- half, Mar 14 2003 I know a crew of cool welding freaks in Brooklyn who got to be on Junkyard Wars. They beat out a group of firemen in their first round but were subsequently eliminated. Pretty thrilling, though!-- snarfyguy, Mar 14 2003 Environmentally friendly, competitive. (+) One must make sure that the junkyard doesn't already contain half-bakery prototypes though.-- X2Entendre, Mar 14 2003 Three words: Custard-Filled Speedbumps. (although where you're going to get usable custard in a junkyard is anyone's guess)-- Cedar Park, Mar 15 2003 Look under the child seats.-- egbert, Mar 16 2003 random, halfbakery
