The maze is constructed from an array of large square sods of earth in which are planted bushes in various patterns. There is one space left empty in the maze. Every so often, the squares will move around in order to occupy the empty space, creating a constantly changing, re-configurable maze. The center maze block remains the same throughout, but the location of the entrances change with the general flux of the rest of the maze.-- Knut, Oct 14 2003 15 puzzle http://www.delphifo...rams/15puzzle_2.htm [Brummo, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004] Amazing Labyrinth http://www.boardgam...em.php3?gameid=1219This board game is based on an ever shuffling maze. [till, Oct 04 2004] Cube 2 - the film http://www.dvd.revi...ndex=3224&User=1052 [po, Oct 04 2004] // constructed from an array of large square sods Where would you find all those big boring guys?
But seriously, are you talking about something on the line of a "15 puzzle"? I can't understand how you intend the maze to work (can you provide a sketch).-- Brummo, Oct 14 2003 How do the hedges move, are they on castors? A downside is that you would never be able to find your way out, depending on how often the paths change.-- squeak, Oct 15 2003 UB, I believe he means that the hedges move into an empty space, but there are still spaces for users between the hedges. The tough part will be working out the geometry to get a path.-- RayfordSteele, Oct 15 2003 Brummo: Yes, similar to a "15 puzzle".
UnaBubba: If there is one empty space then the minimum number of sods that has the potential to ocupy the empty space is two (when the empty space is on a corner), the maximum is four (when the empty space is surroudned by sods). Working the search tree gives a combinatorial explosion of possible combinations of changes and paths to changes.
Again, you are incorrect UnaBubba. There can be a constant state of general flux, simply because at any gven time there will be one sod moving into an empty space. It would not be "highly ordered" because there is the possibility of up to four potential moves, and so there is randomness in which sod will move into the empty space. A little side note, doesn't reversible randomness imply some level of order? Otherwise, how can one reverse it?
Once more, you jump to conclusions. There are paths. There are path sections on each sod, just as there are hedges in each sod. There can be more than one user, in fact there can be multiple users. I don't know how you came to he conclusion that only one person would bed able to access the maze at a time. The space cane never be in the middle, because (as i said in the main body of the idea) the center block remains the same throughout. It is static.
You are not shifting individual hedges or individual paths. You are shifting large square sods of earth in which are bushes planted, and on which paths are lain. The individual structure of each sod never changes, only its place in the maze.
squeak: There will be ample opportunity to find your way out. If you wait long enough, you can leave the maze when your sod of earth is moved to the edge. If time is not on your hands, then you have the same problems as with any ordinary maze.-- Knut, Oct 15 2003 [squeak] is right, we'd never get home.-- k_sra, Oct 15 2003 +1 the world needs more hedges (even though the author does not mention them)-- po, Oct 16 2003 Looks to me as though his bushes form (reconfigurable) hedges. Though I must admit I thought a sod was a patch of lawn, not a snippet of hedge.-- DrCurry, Oct 16 2003 inordinately fond of the word - sod. I hope he is a farmer. the world needs more farmers too :)
sod = lump of earth with / ?without grass.
chilling reminder of the film : cube-- po, Oct 16 2003 They had hedges in Cube? (Only saw the previews.)-- DrCurry, Oct 16 2003 UnaBubba: Would you understand it better if I worded it in Norwegian?
The randomness is because there is no way of knowing which sod will occupy the empty square. So, the sod which eventually occupies the empty square is chosen at random from the sods surrounding the empty square.
The Cube?-- Knut, Oct 17 2003 I'll ask you again, [Knut].
HOW. DO . THE . SODS. MOVE?
On rails, on castors , hovercraft technology, magnetic technology. Explain yourself,boy.-- squeak, Oct 17 2003 I do appologise squeak, i didn't realise that you did ask me a first time.
The sods are moved using a motor and wheels.-- Knut, Oct 17 2003 thank-you-- squeak, Oct 17 2003 No, thank YOU.-- k_sra, Oct 17 2003 random, halfbakery
