1. Receive an email which is utterly incomprehensible, for whatever reason.
2. Click "Mark as Incomprehensible".
3. Click "OK" when asked "Are you sure?"
4. Sender gets an "official" notification from "system administrator" or "Mail Marshal" etc. saying "Your message was undeliverable due to being incomprehensible," and suggesting various possible causes.
5. Recipient can relax and await a revised version, hopefully with sentence breaks this time.-- Texticle, May 20 2006 One like this, but for the pedants. Pedant_20Email_20Bouncing_20Tool [m_Al_com, May 21 2006] I have no idea what you're talking about http://sokaisha.hp....10907/croissant.JPGso here's a bunny with a croissant on his head. [nomocrow, Jul 31 2008] Ooh, ooh! One like this, but for the pedants! I'll post it soon!-- m_Al_com, May 21 2006 reminds me of "I am returning this otherwise good typing paper to you because someone has printed gibberish all over it and put your name at the top." I wonder sometimes why spam programs don't just perfectly simulate a sys admin bounce like this.-- neilp, May 21 2006 This idea simulates intransigent methods of communication via other types of meme system.-- wagster, May 21 2006 Good idea, although I would like the button to be marked "Don't send me this shite". Of course, the bounced message wouldn't bear this phrase - it would be much more official-sounding.-- Texticle, May 22 2006 Bake it! It's a candidate for a plugin for popular email readers. +1-- SledDog, May 22 2006 I find some irony in the fact that the link to "Pedant Email Bouncing Tool" doesn't work because [m_AI_com] forgot to capitalize "Pedant".-- lurch, Dec 17 2006 Did I email you something, [Texticle]?-- Zimmy, Dec 18 2006 Bouncing spam email is a stupid idea - then they know that your email address is 'live'.-- hippo, Dec 18 2006 Granted, but this was aimed at non-spam emails.-- Texticle, Mar 01 2007 [hippo] not if the bounce message contains "PERM_DELIVERY_FAILURE", a message recieved when an address is bad
Of course, you would want the PERM_DELIVERY_FAILURE to be sent from an address other than yours (like mailerdaemon@domain.com, or noreply@domain.com) for the reason you mention.
Because of this, you would have to have the ISP's mail server send permanent delivery failure messages in reply to any spam recieved, from the system's address.
I think I'll put this in GMail's suggestion box-- theperson10, Jul 30 2008 "Message undeliverable: Too many clip art angels and bunnies"-- BunsenHoneydew, Aug 11 2008 random, halfbakery
