If youve ever tried it, you know that putting your feet in cool water can eliminate your need for air-conditioning, even in very warm weather. But filling a basin with water and carrying it to where you want to sit is such a bother. Isnt there an easier way? There is now!
Cut a rectangular hole in the floor just in front of your sofa. Place a shallow pan in the hole. Replace the part of the floor that you cut out, but dont nail it down; instead, use hinges.
Attach plumbing and drainage such as you might find on a regular sink. Fill with cool water. If the water gets warm, or dirty from your stinky feet, simply pull the plug, drain, and refill.
On hot summer days, kick off your shoes, flip the lid, and enjoy a cooling foot soak.-- AO, Apr 14 2003 Sheesh - why make people replace the water? Run a chilled stream through your living room and everyone can paddle.
Or at least put a run-off channel in, then you just need dump in more ice cubes when the water warms up.-- DrCurry, Apr 14 2003 Thanks, DrCurry. Ive added plumbing as per your suggestion.-- AO, Apr 14 2003 My building's made of concrete. I guess I'd have to get a jack hammer and tear the floor up, but I don't think the building management would appreciate my efforts. It sounds very soothing, though.-- snarfyguy, Apr 14 2003 Aww, what the heck! If you can have something as useless as a bidet nowadays, why not one of these??-- Bowner42, Apr 14 2003 Standing in a toilet works.-- skinflaps, Apr 15 2003 For the small room or office where everyone trusts their colleagues' foot hygiene, a small stream running along a trench would solve the problems of both heat and dirt accumulation. Perhaps a separate washing basin to be used upon entering from the outside prior to getting comfortable in the stream, to prevent the spread of... things in the water (shudder).-- friendlyfire, Apr 18 2003 random, halfbakery
