Make bird hunting more of a challenge -- put hooks on kites and cast them into the air. I guess this would be called "birding" instead of fishing. Alternatively you could fly three kites with a net stretched in between and capture birds by steering the net.

Well, the only hunting I do is underwater...

But having accidentally snared a jay while squirrel fishing, this would probably work. The jay was released without harm, he just snarled in the line that had the peanut tied on. And the squirrels eventually untie the peanut and make off with the booty.

Probably a useful stunt to remember for survival purposes, although there are simpler bird traps.

Although any bird willing to get close to a kite would probably be a predator, and fishbone for taking birds of prey....the food chain is already damaged enough.

Some fishermen use kites flown from the back of their boats with a baited line that drops down into the water to replicate a fish having difficulties at the surface. I guess the fish are attracted to both the 'smell' and the slapping of the bait against the sea. Sure, they're not catching birds, but fishing and kites already occurs.

I hate this idea so much I am refraining from voting, since there is no symbol that correctly represents how much I hate this idea. (Having removed a fish hook from a duck's chest, last summer, I can tell you, it's just awful).

Yesterday I worked on the launch of an RSPB campaign to protect albatross which are being caught on fishing lines at the rate of 100,000 a year. In fact they're nearly all gone and this idea suddenly doesn't seem so funny.
