Well, i've seen this done in reverse.. that is, sounds to images. But i've never seen anything that makes images into sounds. A specially built camara that convers whatever it's filming into sounds. I suppose the wavelengths of the incoming light and the pattern in which the light hits would be the determining factors. Ideally, the sounds would somehow mimic the human emotional response to visual stimuli...

Old film soundtracks convert pictures (albeit very abstract ones made by transducing past sounds) into sound. As do, technically, radios and cd players.

Mother Nature kinda beat you to it already. There is a condition called synesthesia that makes people (particulary autistic children) see sound, hear color, taste sights, all sort of weird mixings of inputs. They find it very debiltating and confusing. The lead singer for the bad "Moth" has a milder case of this and even wrote the song "I See Sound" about it.
