During a crash landing there are 3 most likely outcomes
- Everyone dies
- Everyone survives the landing and everyone evacuates safely
- Everyone survives the landing but some die from smoke inhalation
To minimize fatalities in the 3rd case, I propose all passengers have N95 masks readily available. While this will not fully prevent issues from smoke inhalation, it will provide the following benefits
- Gives everyone few more seconds before they pass out (few seconds could be the difference between life and death)
- Gives everyone many seconds of non-panicked breathing. Preventing panic in emergency situation is priceless.-- ixnaum, Nov 06 2021 Smoke Hood https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_hood [bs0u0155, Nov 11 2021] Plus also and in addition, in case of closer-than-expected lap-landing contact when the seats debolt during impact, the wearer protects others from toxic diseases they may (un)knowingly be carrying.
The unopened seatback N95 will quickly become the Most Stolen* Item from a Plane.
*the "I Paid For It In The Exorbitant Costs Of This Ticket/Conveyance/Meal" school of thought-- Sgt Teacup, Nov 06 2021 A certain percentage would wear their mask below their nose and increase their chances of perishing.-- AusCan531, Nov 08 2021 More propaganda please... that's what we all need. That'll fix all this shit for sure
Just a bit more propaganda...-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Nov 08 2021 Yeah you're right. That sort of propagandizing belongs on 4Chan or wherever - not the Halfbakery. Let's all agree on that.-- AusCan531, Nov 08 2021 //in case of closer-than-expected lap-landing contact// - I misread this as "in case of closer-than-expected lap-dancing contact". Mind you, I still don't understand what [SgtTeacup] meant.-- hippo, Nov 08 2021 yep, N95's are just for particulates, they won't do a damn thing against the volatiles coming out of combusting polymers. What you need is a smoke hood <link>.-- bs0u0155, Nov 11 2021 random, halfbakery
