Halfbakery Post Censorship Rating   (-4)  [vote for, against]
What percentage of other's posts would you take down if you could?

The idea is to have a test to see what your censorship score is.

Mine is zero, I've never tried to get a post here taken down in the 20 plus years I've been coming here, but what's yours?

Don't have to go too far back, there's currently 16 posts this morning on the HB. I'm seeing multiple calls for 2 of them to be taken down, giving a 12.5% censorship rating to those making those calls.

Curious? Have a look at yours.

The "Trump said to drink bleach" lie. https://www.snopes....ct-bleach-covid-19/
[doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024]

Didn't expect you to understand.

I get to say I disagree with somebody wrecking the HB by talking about nothing but one subject, but never have I done one of your incessant [mfd]s. Not once.

There's big difference between criticizing speech and wanting it banned.

And if somebody is obsessed with me, I will exercise my freedom of expression to tell them to fuck off.

But NEVER would I for instance try to cite some rule to have their ability to say stupid stuff repressed.

Do you understand now? No?

Figured.

I'll try to simplify:

Good interaction:

Person A: "Bla bla bla bla stupid stuff."

Person B: "That's stupid stuff. Wish you'd talk about something else occasionally."

Bad interaction:

Person A: "Bla bla bla bla stupid stuff."

Person B: "You need to have that post taken down. [MFD].

Marked for deletion is a lot different than "Can you shut the fuck up with your ranting about Donald Trump every 5 fucking minutes?"

But I've also suggested having the ability to stop hearing from certain people as is common on other social sites.

Think about it. How beautiful would it be to just say "I don't care to hear from that person but want them to be free to speak their mind. Just don't want to hear it."?

Odd thing is, I'd push it for you, but would you push it for me? You know the answer.

Anyway, your censorship rating, that is, wanting a post taken down, is 12.5% for this current batch of posts. Mine is 0. Spin it all you like, you're censorship obsessed. I'm not.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

Your second example is as logical as it is funny.

And you just created a character of me where I'm a free speech advocate. Did you forget what the whole point of your attack was?

Looking at this I had the horrible revelation about why we're loosing our civil rights.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

//Nobody is stopping you from posting anything you want//

I notice that recurring trick from the left of changing the subject or assertion to one that allows the debater to win.

False assertion: Doctorremulac3 said people are stopping him from posting anything he wants.

Response: That is false.

Actuality: Some DESIRE to have people not be able to post anything they want and want posts they don't like taken down. This is what [mfd] signifies and if it actually worked, (which is doesn't) then the assertion you made that I think people are actually stopping me from posting things (which I don't) would be accurate, but it isn't.

//You'd likely get a more receptive audience to your political and/or non-invention ideas in a forum more aligned to your themes. Facebook, Reddit, Twitter/X, or even a custom made website.//

I use the HB as a notebook. Used to love interacting with folks like 8th and Max, but the nastiness is more than the friendliness these days. Plus, if I wanted attention for some reason I'd get it. I've done it before.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

So, the [marked-for-deletion] has been a thing for as long as I've been here. And it has its uses. If you're against it for some reason, that's your problem. It's not censorship. It's simply staying on purpose.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 29 2024

Good, if it comforts you, enjoy. Just realize it's about as useful as an incantation to exercise demons. Nobody takes down their posts just because somebody here tells them to.

Anyway, got some business on the coast and then I'm going to the beach to get some sun and fresh air. Should try it. Much more satisfying that [mfd]ing things you disagree with.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

Hey question and I’m not trying to start anything. Do any of you who are constantly angered by me, and I’m talking exclusively about firing the first shot anger. Do any of you ever hit the beach, go for a hike, swim in a lake, go surfing, camping or just hitting nature, sunshine and fresh air? Again, I’m not trying to start anything but I’m genuinely curious.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

Yes. Compare the amount of time you spend typing here with that of most other people, and you'll have your answer.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 29 2024

What does my time spent here have to do with your time at the gym, surfing, hiking or just being outdoors? I’m sitting in the sun right now reading your hate post. Where are you?
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 29 2024

I'm saying I spend less time on here than you do, and you get fresh air and such. At the moment I'm on the john at work, if you must know. But I'm as not frequently told to chill the fuck out, so I guess your sun time actually without the phone could use a boost?
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 29 2024

Hey Ray, chill that fuck out. Ya got shit comin’ out of both ends.

You’ve inspired me to add a new initialism response to first shot antagonisms like that. Follow up a [FS] with [FO].

But you avoided the question. I’ll simplify, because I think I might have figured out what’s going on here. Do you ever get to the gym or do you sit in front of a light box all day?
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

//What percentage of other's posts would you take down if you could?// 100%.
-- pocmloc, Aug 30 2024

Good news, [poc]; [hippo] has you covered (see link).
-- pertinax, Aug 30 2024

It's worth reading again the reasons why there is a facility to mark posts for deletion. Here's an example: Suppose someone makes a post outlining the merits of drinking bleach as a cure for covid. There would be an immediate call for that post to be deleted and rightly so - why? - because it's not a halfbaked idea; it's a dangerous idea, that only a dangerous lunatic would advocate, using this platform as a means to spread harmful misinformation.

There will always be those who say it's a violation of freedom of speech etc to remove this type of material, but this site is owned by a very wise and generous person, who has made a set of rules and all those afforded posting rights agree to these rules. They are clear and there for good reasons. Marked-for-deletion keeps the halfbakery free from dangerous and poisonous ideas as outlined in the categories about (inter alia) racism, misogyny, and cruelty. I fully support this process.
-- xenzag, Aug 30 2024

//Suppose someone makes a post outlining the merits of drinking bleach as a cure for covid. There would be an immediate call for that post to be deleted and rightly so//

So you just posted a lie, that Trump said to drink bleach. (link)

Should you be forced to take that down?

That's the problem with censorship. Who censors the censors? The appropriate thing to do is let you post your lie, then let me debunk it. Then people know 1- Trump never said to drink bleach and 2- That xanzag's a liar.

That's how freedom of speech works.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

And the biggest problem is with censorship, it's always the biggest sheep who want it the most because they assume they'll get to be the censors.

xenzag, let me guess, you strongly supported Kamala on her key issues of banning fracking, defunding the police, blocking funding of the border wall, mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks.

And you just as strongly support Kamala on her key issues of not banning fracking, not defunding the police, not blocking funding of the border wall, not mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

Show me in my annotation where I used the words "Trump said to drink bleach"? These are your words. For some reason you read "dangerous lunatic" as being Trump. That's your choice. As for your continued toxic personal insults, directed to me, I intend bringing them to the attention of the bakesperson for whatever action is determined to be appropriate. It's not why I post ideas here or make comments. Your perpetual expressions of hatred are boring, tiresome and worn out. Have another go at some new ones. Dig your hole deeper.
-- xenzag, Aug 30 2024

And typical of fascists, rather than engaging in debate, you want the critics of your lies censored. I'm sure you'd have me jailed and executed if you could. Let the record show you, the person who has cleared the Halfbakery of most of its members with their psychotic, never ending Trump rants now is going to try to get one of the most prolific poster that's been here for decades removed.

That's what fascists do.

And your emperor's new clothes thing where you refer to Trump without using his name and you think nobody sees it is incredibly cringy and embarrasing.

Be sure to point out to your proposed HB police (that don't exist, this is a free market for free expression of ideas) that I've suggested leaving each other alone for years and you're the one who always starts shit and anything I say is in response to your aggression that YOU initiated.

Always.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

To assume that you have someone's motivation for posting what they do here and imply that they don't get away to relax is pretty fuckin arrogant.

But if you must know the details of my life, I live 4 houses from the beach. As the parent of middle schoolers, I don't get as much time as I'd like at the gym because I'm usually busy with homework assistance in the evenings, but do so in between meetings at the office gym. I bench 215 these days, which is way down from before becoming a parent, but not bad for a guy nearing 50. Have to keep up with the military brats I work with.

This summer we went on a cruise to St. Maarten, in between summer camp and a week's break in New Jersey. Most summers we spend some time in the Mackinaw area. I like to sail a bit with my father-in-law.

I don't pay for tv subscriptions in any fashion, keep enough of a DSL line to keep my occasional work from home sessions stable, eat at Panera Bread weekly because that's the one place my son will tolerate a vegetable, grow tomatoes and pumpkins and have way too many trees in my yard. Weeknights I go to bed at 10 after watching Frasier reruns because that's what the wife likes these days.

Following [marked-for-deletion] isn't succumbing to fascism. It's simply being a good guest and following the rules the host created, like cleaning up after yourself in the bathroom.

Xen, you repeatedly poke the bear, so I got nothin' for you either when the bear bites back.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 30 2024

No, not relaxing, physical activity.

Gym, hiking, running, surfing, bike riding.

Sitting on a cruise ship ain't physical activity.

So what's the last time you got to the gym? I go twice a week myself.

And let me ask about your strong support of Kamala that I assume you have. (Could be wrong, just guessing. You might be the one Democrat that thinks for themselves.)

Did you strongly supported her on her key issues of banning fracking, defunding the police, blocking funding of the border wall, mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks?

And do you just as strongly support her on her key issues of not banning fracking, not defunding the police, not blocking funding of the border wall, not mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks?

My guess is, that since these are specific issues you'll brush them aside and just go ad hominem.

Did I get that right?
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

And Ray, notice how I don't go ad hominem on you. That's because I DON'T disrespect you, especially seeing that you're a family man. I can disagree with you but I've never called you names.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

No, you didn't get that right at all.

I am a pissed-off Republican. I support Kamala in that she's right about not being what I perceive as a threat to basic democracy. I won't vote for a single Republican until I see some seeious behavioral change towards leadership and not being a base echo.

If you don't think cat sailing is physical then that shows you don't know fuck about boats or racing them.

I was in the gym Tuesday between my design release meeting and my transmission supplier meeting.

What's your bench number? You up to your shoe size yet?
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 30 2024

I don't care a fuck whether you call names or not. You're just as disrespectful anyway.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 30 2024

//What's your bench number? You up to your shoe size yet?//

No, it's about ten times your IQ. (put that in after your shoe size insult.) 225 in sets of 3. Right now I'm also doing cardio sets where I bench much lighter weights for a shit ton of reps. Currently at 180 reps of 100 lbs without a break. The goal is 3 sets of 200. Once I get to that I'll add 10. Doesn't look very impressive till you realized I've been going nonstop for a couple of minutes. I do this deep breathing thing where I don't think about the weight, I center on my breathing and the rest of my body. Anyway, dont' wanna get boring here.

So back to the hate thing, no debate on the specific issues?

Okay, figured.

If you change your mind, let me know.

We can address any of the issues you brushed aside, including your candidate Kamala's standing both for and against banning fracking, defunding the police, blocking funding of the border wall, mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks.

Any one of those. Let me know.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

The entire point of this conversation is your judgment and analysis of my life and choices, which is worse than calling names in my book. I didn't ask for your counseling, coaching, input, therapy, or marital advice, yet here you are making assumptions about what I do, how I choose to vote, and how much time I spend in front of a screen.

Stuff it elsewhere.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 30 2024

//here you are making assumptions about what I do, how I choose to vote//

Nope. I asked you where you stand, that's the opposite of assuming.

So let me clarify: Are you both for and against banning fracking, defunding the police, blocking funding of the border wall, mandating electric vehicles and mandatory gun buybacks? I don't know how that works and I have no way of even guessing.

Anyway, if you want to take a particular position on any of those and debate them, let me know. I'm not even sure how I'd counter an argument to both ban and support fracking for instance, you might have me there.

But if you just want to say "stuff it elsewhere" and run away I understand.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

[marked-for-deletion] Entire motivation of "idea" is trolling, but also (from help file) "we should research... - the author read or heard an opinion or research result, and would like to see the matter further investigated"
(aside - for the benefit of anyone obsessed with the number of ideas I have posted about Himself) 1.201 percent of my total ideas fall into this category ie a maxiumum of 20 out of a total of 1675. My family have a long (and publically recognised) tradition of opposing racists, xenophobes, fascists, criminals and terrorists, and he is all of these and more. Once he's safely under lock and key, there will be no more need to give him the time of day. Until then he's fair game for whatever ideas I feel like generating, within the rules and spirit of them being halfbaked, which I believe they all are.
-- xenzag, Aug 30 2024

//Once he's safely under lock and key//

Ahh, gulags and death camps for all non compliants. Is there any problem they can’t solve?

I'm going to assume you didn't and don't support that attempt on Donald Trump's life. I hope to god that's the case, but if I'm wrong I’m really not interested in having interactions with such an evil person. Wanting to imprison and even murder political opponents is the very definition of fascism. If you don't support that let me know and we’ll put that on record and we can both be in rare agreement on something. I don’t care for you but I really do hope you’re not pure evil.

But either way, for the record. xenxag, I propose that I won't post on your ideas, you don't post on mine. Entirely voluntary gentleman's agreement. This would greatly reduce friction.

And I will continue to NEVER try to get somebody here silenced with this [MFD] for things I disagree with nonsense.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024

I'm not interested in using a non-debate site to debate with you. I'd propose that you'd follow the guidelines in the help file.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 30 2024

Okay, I won't tell you to stuff it elsewhere. Oh... wait...

Moving on. If you change your mind about having a gentlemanly conversation about the issues we face, let me know.

But keep in mind, I'm a Libertarian, I don't agree with your having supported Republicans because I don't agree with their views on abortion.

But again, if there's a specific issue you want to discuss, let me know.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 30 2024
