So you car is broke down in a parking lot, on the side of the road, out in the middle of nowhere and it is not your fault... Leave it up the the fix it up to HOSOFIUCSRT... It scoops up the broken car into a mobile repair facility (a moble pit stop for all cars)... Not only will it fix the problem but it will wash, wax, change all the fluids and tires... Thats not all, It removes rust, fixes dents (and re-paints if needed), fixes broken lights and fuses, changes spark plugs (and wires)... Your car would be good as new... All service would be free to the driver as a service from the car companies... Data would be collected of what breaks, rusts, fails etc.. and better cars would result for all...

Chip Foose's team go to great lengths to steal a car buff's junker and overhaul it into a show car as a surprise to the owner. [jurist, Oct 12 2004]

That's a shame - I just chucked out a couple of DB5 gearboxes.

I smell a WIBNI here. But then who wouldn't want their car repaired/restored for free?

Why fix up the old car on-site? Just have the HOSOFIUCSRT scoop it up and leave a loaner vehicle in its place. The door locks on the loaner would use a keypad for security and you'd receive the entry code via telephone/cell phone/pager/email/smoke signal - whatever. Full instructions for getting your car serviced would be in the glove box. The HOSOFIUCSRT drops your car off at the designated (by prior arrangement) repair shop and you drive the loaner until yours is ready.

Does it still have the factory machine guns, rocket launchers and ejector-seat ?
-- thumbwax, Sep 30 2002

Ths would be so much better if it were a skycrane.

Picture it: a helicopter swoops down, picks up your car in some sort of boxed container, and ferries it off to their repair shop, al la the Coast Guard.

Just don't ask about the rates.

UB has a DB5? Ah, my dream car. I can give you £60 for it. <uneasy grin>

Fishbone for stupidity and poorly-thought-out-ness
-- NickTheGreat, Sep 30 2002

[UB] can't you get a local gearcutter shop to make you a replacement? Should only cost $few hundred....

[Rods Tiger] Your alias is rumbled mate! You are Gyles Brandreth and I claim my free jumper!

As for the idea: our survey said "NAH NUH" (nb UK-only cultural reference)
-- shameless_self_reference, Sep 30 2002

I'm from the UK. I don't get it.
-- NickTheGreat, Sep 30 2002

Actually, its not a UK only cultural reference. its a reference to 'Family Fortunes' and frightfully more civilised name for the 'popular' television program of *american* origin called 'Family Feud'. See the strokes latest video for evidence, SSR.

crazy to think this idea turned into MTV's pimp my ride... Oh well... baked now...
-- forgeman, Oct 12 2004

Yes, it would indeed be crazy to think that.

Seems closer to TLC's Overhaulin' with Chip Foose and his team of car customizers to me. [link]

Huge robot that fixes people's cars for free - not much of an idea really. Fishbone withheld due to the //Data would be collected of what breaks, rusts, fails etc.. and better cars would result for all.// bit.
