Goosebumps Indicator   (+5, -2)  [vote for, against]
Measures the intensity of goosebumps on your skin

Once in a while I hear some new song and it touches me right away with goosebums as a result. I think the static electricity on the skin is changing when this happens. So measure it!

This device would enable you to measure the way you emotionally react on things like music, art or anything that touches you. Next step is to, for example, make a Top40 Goosebump List with songs that has the biggest goozebumb impact on selected respondents! Or an art-exposition!

I grew up calling them "goosepimples". Did my parents tell me the wrong word? Or is it a regional thing?
-- TeaTotal, Dec 19 2001

I've always thought of Goosebumps as being more American and Goosepimples more British. I think BartJan's trying to find as many different spellings of goosebumps as he can, just to fool the search engine or something.

Goosebumps involve the hairs on your skin pricking up, so I guess that'd give a lot of easily measureable effects. Have the rising of a hair trip a microscopic switch. Or there are various image-processing techniques for measuring the texture of a surface (they can look for regularly or irregularly repeating patterns on different scales, which would show up goosebumps).

Well [pottedstu], to tell you the thruth, I've changed the spelling of this word for four times now, and I'm still not sure... The reason is that I'm not a native English speaker. Anyway, in Holland we call it (translated): Ants-titties.

I think at the moment of having the GB the humidity of your skin is allso changing, so it will be less conducting. And that's measureable too.

Ahhh, I'm a dork! Sorry [lewisgirl}, I accidently removed your very kind annotation! Remember: ants-tits!
-- BartJan, Dec 19 2001

Whether it's possible or not, I'm not sure measuring goosebumps would be the best indicator of emotional or physical reaction to an event. An EEG or EKG might work better.

Goosezits

Hellhound On My Trail - Robert Johnson

I got to keep movin'

blues fallin' down like hail
blues fallin' down like hail
Umm mmm mmm mmm
blues fallin' down like hail
blues fallin' down like hail
And the days keeps on worryin' me
there's a hellhound on my trail
hellhound on my trail
hellhound on my trail

If today was Christmas Eve
If today was Christmas Eve
and tomorrow was Christmas Day
If today was Christmas Eve
and tomorrow was Christmas Day
spoken: Aow, wouldn't we have a time, baby?

All I would need my little sweet rider just
to pass the time away, huh huh
to pass the time away

You sprinkled hot foot powder, mmm
mmm, around my door
all around my door
You sprinkled hot foot powder
all around your daddy's door, hmm hmm hmm
It keep me with ramblin' mind, rider
every old place I go
every old place I go

I can tell the wind is risin'
the leaves tremblin' on the tree
Tremblin' on the tree
I can tell the wind is risin'
leaves tremblin' on the tree
hmm hmm hmm mmm
All I need's my little sweet woman
and to keep my company, hey hey hey hey
my company

Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time always makes me stop and shiver. Street Spirit by Radiohead, the song I'm listening to right now, is also a bit of a ants-titster. Me on the piano doing Chopin's E-flat Nocturne makes my dad cry.
-- lewisgirl, Dec 20 2001

The ants-tits are everywhere when I listen to Karma Police by Radiohead (for the reason look at the idea Fatal Auto Collision Song) and a good second place is Dvorcak's 9th. When I play Borodin on the piano, its ants-tits all over the house. No tears though; [lg] I will try Chopin, maybe that will do...

The last 20 minutes of The Avalanches - Since I left You album did it for me until I listened to it for the thousandth time.
-- stupop, Dec 20 2001

I first kissed the second great love of my life while listening to Faithless do 'Don't Leave' live at the Sanctuary. That was pretty tickly, ants-wise.
it's ok about the removal, BartJan - everyone else, what I said was 'The Netherlands is a wonderful place with many strange and fabulous gifts'. Ideally that will include a job for me in Rijswijk not too long from now. And they use lots of the letter 'j', which is nice.
-- lewisgirl, Dec 21 2001

Rod Steiger has it, above. Goosebumps *are* the indicator.
-- snarfyguy, Dec 22 2001

I agree that goosebumps are the indicator, but (maybe misled by the name), what I ment is the intensity of them thingies..

Allright allright I'll keep on dreaming!

And btw [lg], if you really get that job in Rijswijk, please say hi to my familly...
