Google should add a 'go to random webpage page' function button on the frontpage of the site.
Also what about all the webspages that go completely missed, sometimes you enter a search term and and you get thousands upon thousands of results. Too many to rummage all the way through even if you use the skips at the botton to get past the next 10 pages or so of results. Google is supposed to organise them in order of relevance but dont you feel sorry for all the sites that get missed out at the back of the pile? Those that never get viewed because there are so many in front. Well than maybe Google should think about creating a special function that allows you to see your search results in order of irrelevance i.e. the worst first. This idea is a plea to the google.com site creators in dedication to those poor lost sites that never get seen or surfed. Give them a chance i say, let there be traffic where there be no traffic!-- Xen, Jan 23 2003 Google API http://www.google.com/apis/index.htmlGoogle has a programmer kit that would allow someone to build this on their own. [krelnik, Oct 04 2004] www.surprise.com http://www.halfbake...ww_2esurprise_2ecomMy second idea or something, good God I sucked. [kaz, Oct 04 2004] Googlism: what is happiness? http://www.googlism...sm=happiness&type=2happiness is free and it's easier than you think [waugsqueke, Oct 04 2004] Kind of defeats the function of Google, doesn't it? There used to be several random URL sites around. They were pretty pointless.-- waugsqueke, Jan 23 2003 If you want irrelevant search results, just use an unrelated search term.-- snarfyguy, Jan 23 2003 // This idea is a plea to the google.com site creators in dedication to those poor lost sites that never get seen or surfed.//
Just because a site ranked low on your search doesn't mean it ranks low on others.-- waugsqueke, Jan 23 2003 Why would Google do this? It sounds like a job for a separate site. Besides, there's so much garbage out there, this would be worse than going into a library and having the librarian show you a random page from somewhere in the library.-- lumpy, Jan 23 2003 Would implementing this idea help Google on their quest for dominance? I don't think so. Will Google make a fortune when, as I expect it will, it goes on the Stock Exchange? Absolutely.-- thumbwax, Jan 23 2003 Only GOOD webpages should be included in the 'go to random webpage page' function. Then it's okay.-- Inyuki, Jan 23 2003 Hey I can claim that this ones stealing from on one of my first ideas ( :P ), well at least the random website function, and granted it is a crap idea. Link anyway.-- kaz, Jan 23 2003 A random idea of the day on the Halfbakery frontpage would be more useful. Just put an old, forgotten idea up there everyday.-- rrr, Jan 23 2003 Kaz, this is my second idea too and no i did not steal off you, in fact i am newly aquainted to the halfbakery subculture. I know there are plenty of random sites out there but i just wanted google to do it too, with it having such a large pool of webpages to draw upon. As for the other idea i didnt really mean Google should implement an algorithm to find the most irrelevant sites - what i meant was - out of all the relevant results generated by a search, allow the user to access them in reverse order - either that or create a broader skip function so that you can go straight to the 10,000th+ results section or whatever takes your fancy.-- Xen, Jan 24 2003 //A random idea of the day on the Halfbakery frontpage would be more useful.// Also easily self-bakeable, rrr. Simply go find a random old idea each day and add an annotation to it.
This seems to be happening naturally these days, however.-- krelnik, Jan 24 2003 I took your suggestion and Googled happiness. Now what?-- snarfyguy, Jan 24 2003 random, halfbakery
