The nitty gritty is that your purchases are tied to your account with your internet service provider. At its base it's a customer loyalty program; you get credit towards your internet allowence, the more you spend on -their products- the wider your bandwidth for longer.-- xxobot, Oct 01 2010 and the nitty gritty of how this would work ?-- FlyingToaster, Oct 01 2010 [FT] Well, obviously, they'd send you Green Sheld Stamps in the post.
I'm more interested in hearing what's the particular advantage of this scheme.-- mouseposture, Oct 01 2010 Problem is internet access is already so cheap. Who'd want to have to make sure they purchased something every month to keep their internet on? It'd be like: "The internet's going down, quick buy some tuna!"-- doctorremulac3, Oct 01 2010 -See idea (right after the blurb)-
In my usual bad habit way i've edited the the original post to reflect my answers.
// Who'd want to have to make sure they purchased something every month to keep their internet on?//
The idea is for people who buy large quantities of goods rather than small quantities of goods, the idea banks on already cheap internet to provide it as loyalty bonus to those who buy their goods.-- xxobot, Oct 01 2010 Yea, I can see that, it's giving internet service as a product premium, but what happens if for some reason you don't need to buy these particular goods for a few months?
But the main thing is how cheap internet service is already. People tend to just want to have it and not think about it, like gas or electricity.
That being said, I suppose products that knock a few bucks off your existing internet bill might be popular but personally, I wouldn't want to sign up for any program that required me to do anything other than pay a small monthly fee to keep my internet on.-- doctorremulac3, Oct 01 2010 so is the idea to have scanners in each store ?, ie: another "Air Miles" thing? or do you send in a boxtop/label/lid-- FlyingToaster, Oct 01 2010 //another "Air Miles" thing//
In a nutshell, yes-- xxobot, Oct 05 2010 random, halfbakery
