low height photocopier for hobbits and small people

There's a myriad of domestic appliances which are not designed for small people, wheelchair users, or young people. Most of them you can work around (PCs, washing machines, ovens etc.), but photocopiers are typically designed so you have to be at lease 4 and a half foot tall.
I therefore propose a photocopier where the scanning unit/document feeder is height adjustable, thus including these so far excluded individuals.

Brilliant!! (+) As long as the height returns to normal after use, so us tall folk don't have to stoop.
-- silverstormer, Aug 19 2003

Seems like it would be quite doable with digital copiers. In the U.S. there is a thing called ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) which has a lot to say about the accessibility of work places and public spaces to the disabled (sorry if that's not the currently acceptable term). I'd be surprised if this wasn't somehow covered in there.
-- half, Aug 19 2003

I like it. It should be feasible with things like photocopiers. Our lab on the other hand is designed by tall people for tall people, which means the benches and sinks are all taller than I would like. This is less easy to fix (so I just get my students to do my washing up)
-- hazel, Aug 19 2003

Sitting on the desk in front of me is a photocopier (cum printer cum fax machine cum modem etc.) that is all of 14" inches high. I posit that this and similar devices thoroughly bake your pun, um, idea.
-- DrCurry, Aug 19 2003

This would make it easier to do moon shots during office parties.
-- FarmerJohn, Aug 19 2003

// As long as the height returns to normal after use //

All right, who left the copier down? Mr. Thumb, can I see you in my office for a minute?
-- phundug, Aug 19 2003

[Dr C] small all-in-one printers are only 14" high but large office photocopiers of the kind needed for copying large volumes/double sided etc are invariably much higher.
-- hazel, Aug 19 2003

B***s*** - see link.
-- DrCurry, Aug 19 2003

but I think the idea was to have them height adjustable so you wouldn't need a "special" appliance for those who can't reach and another, "normal" height one for those who can.
-- hazel, Aug 19 2003

yeah, the idea is to have a low height, or lowerable height scanner on a standard, full function device. I'm happy that there are some low height devices around, but not ones that do everthing a normal copier does.
-- neilp, Aug 19 2003

I'd guess it would be handy when the Uruk-hai need to make photocopies. Of course they always leave it up, and Frodo leaves it down.
-- Amos Kito, Aug 19 2003

yeah, this could be great for tallies too.
-- neilp, Aug 19 2003

Large office photocopiers are (in this large office, at least) only large because they sit on top of the cabinet bit which holds spare paper and such. The actual photocopier bit is only about (walks over to machine with a ruler) 15" including the multi-feed bit on the top. It could just as easily sit on a low-ish desk for the ease of the small or chair-bound.
-- angel, Aug 19 2003

exactly my point [angel], ours is even a separate unit with a short cord, you'd only need to have a free standing mount for it.
[FarmerJohn] - is that a (+) or a (-) point.
-- neilp, Aug 19 2003

What are you some kind of midget? Or a short limbed dwarf? what bussiness do you have using a photo copier anyway? why aren't you serving tallies tea and scones like you should be? shame on you.
-- Gulherme, Aug 19 2003

[neilp] Depends on how far the party has progressed.
-- FarmerJohn, Aug 19 2003

Now small people won't need help to be lifted up so they can xerox their ass.
-- waugsqueke, Aug 19 2003

Uh, how comes nobody's mentioned a step stool?

If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, he'll have to go his damn self.
-- grip, Aug 19 2003

<Imagines all the small pantless people waugsqueke has lifted up onto countless copier machines...>
-- k_sra, Aug 19 2003

even when they protested vehemently.
-- po, Aug 19 2003

Mr. Burns, are you tall? Is that what you're trying to say? It's alright, you can tell us.
-- k_sra, Aug 19 2003

[grip] I can't go carrying around a step stool all the time. How would I carry the books I need to photocopy?!

Anyway, it's not going to help if you're in a wheelchair
-- hazel, Aug 19 2003

Mr B, 5' 2" is not tall who are you kidding?

should we include height on the HBGC?
-- po, Aug 19 2003

<pats old short ass & shoves sugar lump in mouth>
-- po, Aug 19 2003

What Mr Burns said, only slightly less vehemently.
A for instance: A new ATM has been installed round the corner from my house. It is so low - lower than is required for wheelchair access - that I have to squat like I am taking a shit in a french toilet if I am to even see the screen and keypad. And it's right next to a busy bus stop, so there's always a crowd of cig-stunted troglodytes to stare and point at me.

I like the mental image of adjacent full size and fun size but otherwise identical 'copiers in an office, with short and tall able to work simultaneously, so croissant.
-- my face your, Aug 19 2003

You giant freaks...
-- waugsqueke, Aug 19 2003

Go Mr Burns! Go Mr Burns!... Somebody has to defend the rights of tall people.
-- Shz, Aug 19 2003

I thought that was Yao Ming's job
-- DeathNinja, Aug 19 2003

Frodocopier....!

heh. aheh. heheheheHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!! *collapses, gasping* A...a...a...pas...pastry for you...
-- Eugene, Aug 19 2003

Frodocopiers are designed principally for the less tall in society, however, as I mentioned //where the scanning unit/document feeder is height adjustable// this will cater for everyone's needs.
-- neilp, Aug 20 2003

you seem to have a hobbit of producing pun based ideas, neilp. Unusually though, I rather like this one. very good. have a bun.
-- jonthegeologist, Aug 20 2003

<Puts band-aid on UB's head>

The age old battle of tall-versus-short will not be solved. There is always the average to make both extremities unhappy. We cannot reasonably assume vendors and employees will all have the funds neccesary to accommodate the gamut of height that comprises our society, therefore there will most likely be strain on some of its members.
I wish for all short people that they could see at concerts. I wish for tall people that they would never have to take long trips in hard, right angles. I wish for average folks that they wouldn't... well ... I guess the average folks have it easy, don't they?

Continue flaming.
-- k_sra, Aug 20 2003

Would the Frodocopier have a dispensor for the one paperclip to bind them all?
-- PeterSilly, Aug 20 2003

it might have a recycling baggins nearby.
-- neilp, Aug 20 2003

Maybe it comes with an elf warning?
-- PeterSilly, Aug 20 2003

Do the Frodocopies have to be kept in a 20-ring binder?
-- FarmerJohn, Aug 20 2003

Can an Ent also shoot the moon?
-- k_sra, Aug 20 2003

I'm average height myself, would using this be a bit Sauron the knees?
-- egbert, Aug 20 2003

I'm just Pippin out to see if I can Boromir copier back. Fangorn very much.
-- PeterSilly, Aug 20 2003

Whoever's manning the pun-gas at the HB today better turn it down.
-- k_sra, Aug 20 2003

She can't take much more o'this captain, the puns seem to be dragging the halfbakery into a joke of no return. Don't think that I'm Melian about this to give them mithril.
-- sartep, Aug 20 2003

*clap clap clap clap*
-- k_sra, Aug 21 2003

I think we've discovered the origin of elvish.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 21 2003

Preshley?
-- angel, Aug 21 2003

My elf hates it when I speak for him.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 21 2003

Know thy elf.
-- egbert, Aug 21 2003

Someone, please, shoot one or both of them.
-- Detly, Sep 17 2003

I know where you live, [UB]. (Well, roughly, anyway, and it's not like anyone would miss that city.) :P
-- Detly, Sep 17 2003

I'd miss that city. :)
-- sartep, Sep 18 2003

Maybe the frodocopier could be employed to copy scores for "Jive Tolkein" : a beegees inspired, hobbit based musical. I'll get me coat.
-- jonthegeologist, Oct 08 2003

[jtg] that appears to be some sort of XeroxKaraoke/frodocopier combine.. a step to fara-mir surely.
-- neilp, Oct 08 2003

Well, instead of building special low height photocopiers, why not sell an optional stool? (-) I like the name, though
-- PauloSargaco, Oct 09 2003

And I was going to post an idea for a Hobbit-size Victrola! This blows that out of the proverbial water!
-- Amishman35, Dec 02 2003

No one would give it any credenza. After all, Hobbits are just a mithril-y.
-- egbert, Dec 02 2003

Hobbits dwarfs and other small would cut trees lower saving timber. The saw axes chains saws would be smaller but the pulp wood industry would love them.
-- popbottle, Feb 25 2017

Well done, [pop], excellent job; very nearly coherent this time, and mostly appropriate to the context. Your therapists must be so proud.

If you continue to improve, there's every chance you might one day be permitted to write with something other than a wax crayon, athough obviously sharp metal implements are out of the question.
