Forced Posture Chair   (0)  [vote for, against]
A chair to force you into the right posture

I have some trouble with backache from sitting in office chairs for extended periods. There are lots of different chair designs that claim to promote a good posture to minimise any discomfort, but I find that when I sit in these I start to slouch after a while, without even realising what I am doing, and any positive effect of the seat is lost.

Why not design a seat with a harness which keeps the user positioned in the optimum position to avoid back pains. This would ensure that I maintained the correct posture, and minimise my discomfort.

It even has an option to give you electric shocks if you slump. Or maybe that's not an option... [DrCurry, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

Those silly "back chairs" which were around a while ago claimed to do this. Perhaps a more reliable method would be to have someone like [po] or [blissmiss] standing behind you and slapping you on the head every time you slouch.

(Chair speaketh thusly)

Stop slouching

Stop slouching

Stop slouching

(like that?)

Friend of mine had a similar problem. Her chiropracter had her wear a "forced posture" corset. Gave her quite a bit of relief, actually.

OK, but what about her posture?

Or a suctionpad on the front? I'd straighten up really quick.

I think the suctionpad should be user-adjustable. Nobody wants a stationary suctionpad.

I'm not sure a suctionpad would provide enough suction to hold an entire person up, unless you had a super-smooth surface for it to attach to, and some form of auto-lubrication system.

Or is everyone just being crude...

Perhaps auto-lubrication on [FarmerJohn]'s suctionpad would be a plus
