A problem arises in trying to use a simple media player to navigate through a temporally long data field (music/video/etc), as the positions in which the pixels of the gui set lack adequate precision, particularly at small interface scales.

For any media playback application less than full-screen, while hovering the seek bar, auto-show/-hide the same control which extends across the larger or preferred dimension of the display area, horizontal or vertical.

Not sure quite the right category for this, since it could apply to all manner of data set navigation controls.
