Fake Wedding Bands   (-3)  [vote for, against]
Indicate your unavailability subtly at bars

A bunch of cheap-but-real looking wedding bands would be available at the bar. Guys and girls not interested in getting hit on could slip one on and subtly indicate that they're not interested in getting to know you. This would save you the cost of buying someone's girlfriend a beer.

Some pub-goers are unavailable but want to get hit on anyway, mostly because of the free drinks and ego boost. This wouldn't help us with them.

This is not a new idea, and it's even sillier to have them for sale at the bar because everyone would know what they look like.

Been using fake wedding rings for years to help pick up women.

FYI, I have found that a (genuine) wedding band seems to attract more attention that it deters, in bar-type settings.

Same here, [DrCurry].

you would only know *that* DC if you spent an equal amount of time with it (the ring)off.

[po] That is true. Personally I avoid going to places like that without my ring on.

here, have a sugar lump for fidelity!
-- po, Mar 19 2007

I already have one, she is sitting across the room.
-- Galbinus_Caeli, Mar 19 2007

ah! so she can see what you're writing. ah ha.
-- po, Mar 19 2007

Actually I don't think she knows of my halfbakery activities. But she does read my livejournal.

And if she saw that I called her a lump of sugar she would probably beat me about the head and shoulders.

I once heard that the all the good men are either gay or married, so perhaps that explains why the ring actually attracts more attention rather than less.

I usually look into a man's eyes first, and then... at the biceps.(looking for rings might come after that)

I've always found that a simple "Fuck off" works quite well. I never take it personally, of course.
