While the term "dynamite" is still in common usage, in reality the greatest proportion of commercial blasting explosives are a composition known as "blasting gelatin". "Dynamite" is a tradename for a chemically very specific product, as patented by Alfred Nobel.
Other prepackaged insensetive commercial secondary explosives, such as thickened ANFO, are also referred to by the badly educated, the careless, the intentionally ignorant and the ill-informed (i.e. journalists) as "dynamite". This is in fact entirely wrong.*
