Electric themostat valve   (+2, -1)  [vote for, against]
Have the water valve controlled by the engine ECU

Why not use an electric operated water valve instead of the more usual wax thermostat in car motors?

The engine ECU could then have a fine control on engine temperature and react quickly to power demands and avoid thermal shock to the head, which can lead to gasket problems.

Better temperature could reduce wear and increase engine lifespan too.

I think it's "electric".
-- BJS, Jan 03 2008

Yes, why not? Or is this already implemented in some schnazzy engines? [+]
-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 03 2008

I'm not boning this, because it is quite understandable these days that someone might labour under the misconception that real engines have ECUs.

Why can't I find Stratford-upon-RB211 in my UK atlas?
-- AbsintheWithoutLeave, Jan 04 2008

Because you should be looking for Stratford-Just-Off-The-B439, twit.
-- 8th of 7, Jan 04 2008

I think this is already implemented on some higher performance engines. I will try to find links. See link for a BMW part in their v8 engine.

Damn, is there anything BMW hasn't done?
-- acurafan07, Jan 04 2008

I'm not keen on electronic engine controls - a catastrophic meltdown in VA and the stone-ax reliability of my carbureted truck are influences - but I like it. As inescapable as electronic controls are, this would be nothing to add, I think.

I don't think that they have released a car to compete in the Suzuki Areo market.

Yes.
