Electric doormat   (+2, -1)  [vote for, against]
A doormat with a motorized spinning brush

A nine inch disk with brush bristles is attached to a doormat. The brush is powered by a 1/3 horsepower industrial waterproof motor that spins at 2500 RPM (rotations per minute.) The doormat plugs into a waterproof outdoor grade outlet with a water resistant cord. If your house does not have an outdoor outlet, there are waterproof extension cords available that you can hang out of the window. The disc brush can be turned on and off by an electric sensor that detects if a foot is on the doormat. When the bristles wear out, you can unscrew the old disc from the motor and put on a new disc brush. If there were more of these, We would not have to worry about staining other peoples floors. The doormat can be used indoors or out. It can also be fitted with a shoe buffer attatchment for when you need a shoe shine.

It doesn't zap, but it still fries nerves... [Mr Burns, Aug 14 2002]

Spinning brush shoe shine machines are thoroughly Baked, as are spinning brush boot cleaners. In Europe, where shoe-shine professionals are rare, coin-operated versions are often placed in public places. The ones in corporate bathrooms are either pressure sensitive or push-button operated.

Haven't seen any attached to doormats, but I fail to see the advantage.

If you're standing on the disc, wouldn't you also spin around?
-- Mr Burns, Aug 13 2002

<pout> I was kind of hoping this would be a wired doormat to zap Salesman and unwanted Jehovahs Witnesses with ..... </pout>
-- The_Englishman_Abroad, Aug 13 2002

thcgenius, if you only put one foot on the disc, you wouldnt spin. Weaker people might have to install a wall-handle. Englisshman Abroad, If I get around to it, Ill think of a jehovas witness and salesman door zapper. Unless you think of one before me. Dr curry, that link was not what i was thinking of. Besides, its not water proof.

I think this idea would make a nice centripetal girl scout ejector.
-- polartomato, Aug 14 2002

You must mean centrifugal unless you want a girl scout injector.
-- FarmerJohn, Aug 14 2002

Aww dammit... I always mix those up. But a girl scout injector would be cool too.
-- polartomato, Aug 14 2002

Rather than a spinning disc, how about a large number of horizontally-mounted long thin roller brushes that alternately rotate in opposite directions ? Then, the cumulative force on the shoe would be near enough zero, but the sole of the shoe would get a thorough brushing.

That's going to be rough on the barefoot beggar brigade!
