Lonesome George is the last of his race and does not want to play with Tortoises of other extraction.

I'd expect him to be able to cross-breed with a closely-related tortiose, and then at least his genes would be preserved, giving some opportunity to bringing the species back (more or less) by selective breeding of his offspring.
