Computer: Timer
Download Plus   (+1, -2)  [vote for, against]
Preset Downloads

Use Download Plus to set-up a timer on a Computer to allow you to automatically download any mp3 you want by pre-entering the Internet address(es) found in an mp3 location such as emusic.com.

Example: You are at work from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.. Your housemate is at work from 12 noon - 8 p.m. and you are expecting a detailed message or fax, etc. between 1-2 on your single phone line. Set Download Plus to download at 3 p.m..

Upon arrival at 5:30 p.m., your mp3 album is ready to play or burn. If it is a DSL line, you can have multiple albums set to be downloaded in the same time period.

leechFTP http://stud.fh-heil...hftp/downloads.html
Freeware FTP program that has the ability to put downloads in a queue and set a 'queue start time'. That should do it. [st3f, Mar 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

GoZilla http://www.gozilla.com/
I think this does everything you want [mcscotland, Mar 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

... and many things you don't. http://accs-net.com/smallfish/radiate.htm
What's Go!Zilla up to? It installs a spyware kit called Radiate, formerly Aureate. Information on what exactly Radiate sends back to the servers is a bit vague. (Maybe nobody smart enough to do a tcpdump is dumb enough to install it?) [jutta, Mar 15 2002]

I'd Never use Go!Zilla - I use this http://www.emusic.com
This legitimate mp3 site is highest rated by PC Magazine - I've used it for 5 months - Jazz & Blues in particular have many classic albums [thumbwax, Mar 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Well regarded and nifty utility that scans your (win) system for ad/spyware and removes it. [bristolz, Mar 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

bitbeamer http://www.bitbeamer.com/
What the author of leechFTP is now working on. There are free time-crippled demos available if you want to try it out. [st3f, Mar 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

Not by me. Not yet anyway. You're so bloodthirsty, UB.

Here's what I wrote on another posting (now deleted):
"Bakedness alone is not grounds for deletion.
Extreme bakedness which is commonly known at time of posting is often marked for deletion with the adjunct 'Consumer Advice'."

This is obscure enough to escape an mfd from me though others who know the FTP market better may judge it differently. 'wax can, of course, delete it any time he wants.

I know nothing about this but it strikes me as sensible for someone who needs to download things and has little time to sit watching it do what it does...
Couldn't help but read "You're so bloodthirsty, UB." in the voice of Satan to Saddam in South Park the Movie. I apologise so much if St3f and UnaBubba do not fit those roles!!

Oh, now that creates an uncomfortable image.

Will leech connect to the internet for those using one line?
-- thumbwax, Mar 15 2002

It can't run a script if that's what you need. So, 'yes' is the answer if your machine autoconnects to the Internet, 'no' if it doesn't.
-- st3f, Mar 15 2002

Caveat Emptor: Gozilla is spy-ware.
-- waugsqueke, Mar 15 2002

Interesting waugs - what's it up to?
-- mcscotland, Mar 15 2002

cron job
-- bristolz, Mar 15 2002

"Plus" is for being able to run script - think of it as "VCR Plus" for a computer. (Thank You for putting "script" into the thread st3f - I couldn't remember proper term) I only use products which pass muster with User/Tech Reviews. For instance, Go!Zilla is out for obvious reasons - as is Morpheus. Disgusting what these asswipes think they can get away with.

'wax: LeechFTP gets my recommendation. It's the package that I use and I am not aware of any nasty consequences. (I was acutely aware of Gozilla when I installed it a year or two ago. It went within 2 hours followed by a clean with some anti-spyware). Give leech a go. You may find it does what you need. If it doesn't, the author is currently working on a commercial FTP project (bitbeamer) that might fill the gap.(see link)

bris: I'm guessing that 'wax is a windows user. If he was using linux/unix I don't think he would have asked the question. ;o)
